How do you feel when you put on a suit? More powerful? Like you can take on the world. There’s a reason they’re called a “power suit”. You can wear a suit for work or for a special event. Let’s take a look below at the best suits for women to choose for any occasion.
First, reasons to choose a suit
1. Suits for women are having a style moment
Just a few years ago, a matching suit was seen as a bit old-fashioned and separates were considered the on-trend choice. However, matchy-matchy suits are definitely back in style. Read on to see some designer choices on the Fall catwalks.
Cathy @themiddlepageblog above (read her style interview here) opts for an eye-catching style in orange that looks beautiful with her hair color. You can see more ideas on how to wear orange in this article.
Steal her look with this similar blazer, trousers, shirt (another option here), sandals and sunglasses.
2. Suits are flattering when proportions are right
Wearing a suit in one color creates a long and lean silhoutte.
If you want to ensure your legs look even longer, choose pants you can wear your heels under. Shorter women may also look better with a shorter jacket to create the illusion of longer legs.
If you don’t want to look wider on top, a single breasted jacket can be a good choice. Of course, the opposite may be true for you – perhaps you’re a pear shape and want to balance your top half with your bottom half, in which case a double-breasted look could work.
As with everything, it’s about choosing a style that looks good on your body type.
3. Suits can be worn for many occasions
Suits work for every occasion. For a party, for work, casually with sneakers. You can wear a suit to a wedding.
Carmen @carmen_gimeno above shows how you can style your suit with sneakers for a more casual look.
Check out these suit sets from J.Crew (blazer and pants), L’AGENCE (blazer and trousers) and MODFUL, turtleneck top, sneakers and clutch.
4. Suits are versatile
As well as being able to wear your suit anywhere, a suit is incredibly versatile. You can wear the pieces as separates, teaming your blazer with your jeans, or your suit pants with a different jacket.
5. You can wear suits in any season
Linen in the summer, wool in the winter, you’ll find the best suits for women to suit the weather where you are.
Georgette @grownandcurvywoman above (read her style interview here) opts for an on-trend pink suit. This shade of pink is one of the new season’s biggest color trends. She adds warmth in the cool weather by wearing a sweater under her suit.
Recreate her outfit with this similar suit set, top, booties and hoop earrings.
6. Suits usually come as separates
This means you can choose different sizes on top and on the bottom to get a fit that works for your figure.
On trend designer options
As mentioned, suits are very much on trend at the moment. Below, you can see how the designers styled suits on the catwalks for the new season.

I adore suits but my retired life doesn’t give me many opportunities to wear one. In my wardrobe is a very expensive pinstriped suit which I have hardly worn. So I am going to be careful with this trend.

Being retired doesn’t mean, “goodbye polish, and hello frumpy days”. Create opportunities to polish and fluff! Go out to eat at a fancy restaurant, or go shopping at fancy brick and mortars looking the part. Maybe, go to a gallery opening… Just stay in the mix in another way, and shine your brightest! Don’t give up beauty, class and style after retirement, refine it, redefine it, and give yourself a better more mature look. Suits are totally in. Take it from this sixty year old. When my mouth says my age, my ears don’t believe me!!
