How to choose the right Christmas dress for you
There are so many dresses to choose from. You’ll find more than 8,000 dress styles at Nordstrom. So how do you choose the right one for you?
Think about your figure when looking for the most stunning Christmas party dresses for you
The beauty of having so many choices is that there will be a dress to perfectly flatter you. Think about what looks best on your figure. For example, if you have an hourglass figure, you may like to emphasize your waist. If you have an apple shape, you might like to skim over your tummy area or if you are pear-shaped, you may like to choose a style which floats over your hips without clinging.
How will you be spending your Christmas?
Will you have a formal party to attend? Will you be spending the festive season at home? Do you want a dress for everyday or a special occasion dress? How you will spend your Christmas will determine the kind of dress you choose.
1. Asymmetrical mini dress
There are plenty of 40+ women with fantastic legs who look amazing in mini dresses. However, if you have consigned your mini dresses to the back of your closet, it may be time to think again.
When looking for stunning Christmas party dresses, don’t discount the mini dress as short hemlines can look very stylish worn as a long tunic top with leggings or slim pants. The Lavish Alice dress below features asymmetrical detailing and a statement buckle.
2. Mesh sleeve dress
If you prefer to cover up your arms, a trendy way to do so this season is with a mesh sleeve dress like the little black dress from Maggy London (below). A timeless classic, you could easily wear this for many years to come.
3. Two-in-one dress
A big trend this season is to wear a sweater over a slip dress. All Saints have put the two together for you with the dress and sweater combination below.
But you don’t have to wear the two together. You could always wear the sweater over high-waisted jeans or pants, or you could pop a turtleneck sweater or classic white shirt or t-shirt under the slip dress.
4. One shoulder Ted Baker dress
Shoulders often age well and it can be a beautiful part to show off to the world. A one-shoulder dress is a perfect way to do that and is a beautiful option for the party season.
The one shoulder dress from Ted Baker (below) would look stylish worn on its own or with a wrap to cover-up your arms.
5. Long sleeve plunge dress
Green is always a beautiful color for the festive season. The green and black wrap dress from Saylor below should be flattering for most figures and features on-trend bell sleeves.
The front has a deep V but if you don’t want to show too much cleavage, you could add a pretty lace camisole underneath. Or, if you want to dress it down a little, you could layer over a black turtleneck.
6. Mixed material dress
Unusual, stylish and asymmetrical, the Tory Burch dress (below) is sure to be a conversation starter whether you wear it at a party or day-to-day.
7. Tulip hem dress
A good choice if you have a more formal occasion to attend, the navy tulip hem dress below has fantastic reviews from women who say it has a flattering fit and they got lots of compliments when they wore it.
You could wear for festive parties or you could style for summer events if you’re lucky enough to have a wedding or garden party to attend next year.
8. Silver sweater dress
A sweater dress is always a good option to stay stylish AND warm during the cooler months. You could style the silver mock neck dress below for a party or for everyday wear.
9. Silver 20s dress
It’s incredible that the 1920s have never gone out of style. A century later and the styles of the decade made famous by the Great Gatsby are still just as on-trend now as they were then.
The silver Vince Camuto dress below would look very stylish worn with a blazer and heels.
