Do you love leather pants outfits? One thing’s for sure – wearing leather can add an edge to any outfit. However, it can be tricky to get the balance right between edgy and elegant when thinking about what to wear with your leather leggings or leather pants. Let’s take a look at some easy-to-wear leather pants outfits as well as the best faux leather leggings or leather leggings, so you can choose which you prefer.
Best faux leather leggings or best leather leggings (depending on your preference)
If you don’t already have a pair in your wardrobe, you’ll find the most flattering leggings to choose below. If you already have a black pair, you might want to think about brown or tan as these are particularly on-trend right now.
Or, you could choose a pair of leather pants. Wide-leg styles are trendy this season as well as being flattering.
straight leg leather pants outfits
A pair of straight leg pants like those worn by Fonda @savvysouthernchic above is a classic that won’t date.

Already have a black pair in your closet? You could add a different color like the taupe Karen Millen option (below), which come in a choice of neutrals and bright shades.
If you want to put together an on-trend leather pants outfit, you could combine them with other neutrals like a cream sweater and tan coat.

long leather pants
Wide-leg leather pants are very on-trend right now, but that doesn’t mean they will date. They will still be in style for seasons to come. Wide leg pants can be particularly good to skim over hips and thighs for the pear shape or to add balance for the triangle shape figure.
Stretch leggings
You could also try a pair of leggings rather than pants. If you already have a pair of leggings, you could wear your leather leggings with anything you wear your regular leggings with.
You’ll find extra inspiration in this article on how to wear leggings over 40.
The leggings below are 100% leather so they are a bit of an investment, but you should get plenty of wear out of them.

You don’t have to opt for full leather leggings. You could instead opt for a pair of coated leggings like the Wit & Wisdom leggings (below) for a similar look.

biker leggings
For a softer look, you could choose a leather in a paler shade. The beige leggings below would look good with a white or cream sweater.

coated jeans
The skinny coated jeans (below) come in either the tan shade shown here or in black. They would work with heels for a night out or flats and a sweater for daytime.

Carelia @myevolvingstyle above (read her style interview here) chooses a pair of burgundy leather pants and adds a finge jacket to add extra impact. Rather than a pair of black shoes that you might ordinarily expect, she chooses nude pumps for a stylish, unexpected element.

A pair of high rise jeans like the Ella Moss pair (below) can make your legs look longer as well as helping to tuck in a tummy.

Best tops to go with leather leggings
Now that you’re thinking about the leather pants you already have in your closet or the leather leggings you might want to add to your existing looks this season, let’s take a look at what you might wear them with.
When wearing leather leggings, you will probably want to provide some coverage, in the same way you would with your regular leggings, so I would opt for tunic styles or a long shirt.
If your leather pants have pockets or have a more traditional style, shorter tops will work as well.

How to style leather leggings
While leather leggings can at first seem like a tricky look to pull off at a certain age, the great thing about leather leggings or pants is they add an edgy, playful element to your outfit, but are just as easy to style as your regular leggings or skinny jeans.
Let’s take a look at some more leather pants outfits.
Leather pants outfits: all neutrals
Wearing layers of different neutrals is a particularly on-trend look right now. Take a look at my article on Roman style and fashion trends and you can see this is a look that featured in many storefronts and on the street during my recent trip to Rome.
Nordstrom waterfall lapel wool & cashmere coat – Caslon seamed funnel neck sweater – Karen Millen stretch leather biker leggings – Steve Madden suede boot – Dreubea tassel tote – FURTALK winter knitted beanie – Ross-Simons huggie hoop earrings
White shirt and knitwear leather outfits
Sweater vests are an of-the-moment knitwear trend. Choose a longer, white tunic shirt to provide some coverage. Adding a sweater vest that ends at, or just above, your waist as a top layer will make your legs look longer.

Blazer AND leather leggings
A blazer can instantly add a bit of polish to any outfit. Tanasha @stylishheights above shows how you could wear your leather pants with a blazer and heels for a night out.

belted cardigan
For an outfit that mixes casual and formal, you could add a lacy camisole and layer with a cozy cardigan.

With a denim jacket
Adding a denim jacket is a good way to create a more casual feel for your leather pants outfit as well as making your outfit look more suitable for spring or summer.

With a mini dress for evening
A mini dress can be a good subsitute for a long tunic top, particularly for an evening out. If you have a shorter dress sitting in the back of your closet that you don’t wear anymore, why not dig it out and try with your leather leggings.

with an asymmetrical top
I’m a big fan of asymmetry for adding interet to an outfit as well as creating flattering, elongating lines. An asymmetric top can be a stylish addition to your leggings.

with a warm coat for winter weather
Leather leggings are versatile enough to be wearing for day or night, summer or winter. Sylvia @sylviacolella above (read her style interview here) styles hers with a long coat.

with an on-trend shacket
Shirt-style jackets are very on-trend this season and I have added several to my own closet. I would wear the longer style (below) open to create a flattering, column effect.

Below, you can see the outfits featured above together in one capsule. You can see you could easily mix and match the different tops and pants to create many different looks.

I LOVE this article on leather pants. I’m 60+ and a portrait photographer living in a small southern, Gulf Coast city. I’m originally from a city on the east coast, and the blazer-leather pants-white blouse-pumps-earrings look SOOO works for me! I can feel professional and stylish when attending business networking events or visiting clients. I love some of the other pairings, too. Thank you!!
Great to read this was useful to you Deitra!
