Are you a tennis fan? Even if you’re not, it’s worth attending Wimbledon or one of the Grand Slams for the sense of occasion, the atmosphere and the strawberries of course. But what to wear to Wimbledon? What are the best Wimbledon outfits to choose? Whether you’re heading to London or maybe planning a trip to the US Open later in the year, you’ll find the inspiration you need below…
Wimbledon outfits
When watching Wimbledon, you probably have one eye on the action on the court, and one eye on the crowd. The Duchess of Cambridge is a regular and the Duchess of Sussex has joined her in the stands. Actress Sienna Miller has also often been spotted looking chic among the crowd as has Downtown actress Michelle Dockery. So, if you’re lucky enough to go, you maybe (almost) rubbing shoulders with royalty and A-listers.
Wimbledon dress code
So, is there a dress code when you attend Wimbledon? Are there must wears and must nots? Well, while the dress code on court is strictly enforced, there’s no official Wimbledon dress code for spectators beyond not wearing torn jeans or dirty sneakers.
However, Wimbledon spectators do usually dress up, particularly if they are attending center court. Think about what you would wear to a summer wedding. Although, in this case, it’s absolutely fine to wear white (you’ll be showing solidarity for the players!)
Claudia @beafitmom.nl above shows how you could wear white to Wimbledon with a stylish blazer dress.
Get her look with this similar blazer dress (another option here), pumps and fedora hat.
Your upper half will be more visible
While a summer dress is the perfect outfit for Wimbledon, your top half will be what is on show for most of the match, given you’ll be sitting down. So you may want to concentrate on the details on the upper half of your outfit.
Don’t forget a cover-up
British summertime is notoriously unpredictable. So, while center court now has a rectractable roof, you’ll still want to make sure you have a layer to stay warm.
Try plain or classic patterns
Block colors always look classy. Or you may want to think about choosing a timeless pattern like stripes or polka dots.
Consider bringing a hat
It may be sunny and the roof will then be open. You’ll want to protect your face while looking stylish in the process. Check out our tips on how to wear a hat.

Now that you know the basics about dressing for Wimbledon, let’s take a look at how you could put your Wimbledon outfits together. Then you can tuck into some strawberries and cream and enjoy the action.
Tops to wear to wimbledon
A classic white shirt always works for pretty much every occasion. Eileen @eileenternullo above wears hers with pink pants and matching shoes.

You could also think about adding sunny yellows, cool blues or stripes to your outfit.

Jackets and cardigans
You may need a cover-up at Wimbledon, to make sure you stay warm and look smart. Angela @angelamashelle above opts for a striped dress, blazer and crisp white sneakers that would be perfect.

A classic cover up to choose would be a blazer, but you could also opt for a cozy cardigan as long as you keep the rest of your outfit smart.

dresses
A dress is a classic Wimbledon option. You can opt for a knee-length, a midi or a maxi, depending on your preference. Emms @beautifuleveryday_uk above looks lovely in her white maxi dress and straw hat.

The yellow dress (below) is similar to one that Kate Middleton was spotted in at Wimbledon.

pants and skirts
Jeans are fine to wear to Wimbledon as long as they aren’t ripped. I would stick to a darker color like Carmen @carmen_gimeno above as this looks smarter, and keep your top half more formal.
Check out this similar top, jacket, jeans, sneakers, clutch, necklace and sunglasses.
You could choose wide-leg or slim pants, and knee or midi-length skirts. If you want to add interest, you could look out or a skirt with some asymmetry.

shoes
I would opt or a low-ish heel or a flat style for Wimbledon. You can wear sneakers, but make sure they are clean and smart. Beth @styleatacertainage above (read her style interview here) chooses a pair of espadrilles.

accessories
You can elevate your Wimbledon looks with stylish accessories like Wendy @fashionoverfifty.wendy above who chooses pearls and a clutch bag.

Think about taking a hat with you. You don’t want to block anyone’s view, but you may need a shade from the sun. Take sunglasses with you, and you could play around with your accessories by adding a print handbag.

I’ve been to the Championships at Wimbledon 5 or 6 times. I would chose to avoid wearing all white. It looks like you’re trying too hard. But that’s just my opinion, others might not agree. I would also avoid the blue and white pinstripe blazer as that’s what the line judges wear.
