The best shoe trends for spring & summer 2016 | 40plusstyle.com

It’s hard to believe that winter is flying by and we are approaching spring and summer! There are a number of exciting shoe trends that have emerged that caught our eye. Here are our 5 favorite trends (plus a bonus) and the shoes we are coveting for a chic step forward (pun intended) this summer. Enjoy!

Lace up flats and heels

Hands down, the top shoe trend for 2016 has been (and continues to be) lace up flats and heels. The beauty of this trend has been the diversity of options. From flats to high heels, open to closed toe, classic to rocker, the choices are endless. Here are a number of options spanning the lace up trend spectrum:

Sneakers

Probably the most comfortable shoe trend for the summer, creative takes on sneakers were all over the runways. Here are some of our favorite sporty trend picks that are perfect for the summer:

Loafers

Another comfortable trend, loafers (and all the shapes and sizes they come in) are a great go to for this summer. Whether you’re going for a flat or heeled pair, your style combinations are endless.

Mules

Mules are the quintessential in and out shoe trend. These past two years have really been the moment for mules. Much like the loafers, there are numerous options you can work with from flats to super high heels and from open to pointed toe options. Here are some of our favorites:

Pointed toe flats and heels

The beauty of pointed toe flats or heels is that they instantly add a chic tone to whatever ensemble you’ve put together.  The quintessential lady like shoe silhouette,  here are pairs we have our eye on for the summer:

Bonus trend: Slide Sandals

Slide sandals are a pretty divisive shoe trend. Some swear by them as a chic look (just look at he runways) and others completely shy away from them. When well styled, slides can look pretty chic. Here are a some worth considering for the summer:

Other trends include: gladiators, espadrilles, block heels, round square toes, fancy heels, platforms and tassel shoes. Really there is something for everyone this spring and summer. See more of our favorites in our boutique!

I love all the trends except the lace ups. They remind me of an awful pair of orange ones I had to wear in the 70s to a party because they were the only sandals that would fit me on the day. To this day it’s put me off them 🙂

I am with Jayne, I love them all but the lace ups. Just haven’t got a love for the Roman sandals.

Yes, they are not the most comfortable of shoes but can look great with capris.. Orange pointy shoes, wow!

I just purchased a pair of pointed-toe heels, although I’ve never been keen on them. But these were very comfortable and have a really attractive upper, so I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and try them. So far I’m liking them more and more. It was nice to have it confirmed that this a trend this year, plus your comment that they instantly add a chic tone to an outfit has caught my attention. As always, thank you for your eye on fashion!

Lace up sandals, mules and slide sandals will only work for me if they are nude or a very light color otherwise they will visually shorten my legs. Adding color, embellishment or interesting design features will work best for me with low vamp shoes like the loafers and pointy toe flats and heels.
