Part of the reason of setting up this site is to showcase more women over 40 in fashion. The fashion world and fashion blogs overwhelmingly feature images of very young and slim women and women over 40 tend to be kind of ignored. (See also why women over 50 should not be ignored).
As brands are starting to see the potential of this growing group of women, we have recently seen more 40 plus women being featured in ads, which I think is great. Have a look at Demi Moore for Ann Taylor, Lauren Hutton for Alexis Bittar and Julienne Moore for Talbots. However, we are a huge and growing group and so much more can be done.
So here is a little contribution by myself and 2 of my photography enthusiast friends Sabine and Anja. We set out to an almost deserted theme park here in Singapore. Anja has written extensively on this park and it’s full of colors and statues. Perfect for some ‘real’ fashion shots and for us to try some of our most colorful and abundant outfits. Needless to say we had a lot of fun and learned some more about photography and posing, even though the light was not that good. No subdued photos here, but lots and lots of color!
Lady in the red dress
Below is me wearing a red hat and dress. Unfortunately no details about brands of clothes as I cut them out before writing them down….
The purple lady
Although I’m far more exuberant and colorful in these photos than normal, my friend Anja always looks colorful and well accessorized. I love her in this purple dress with Asian inspired pink jacket.
Beautiful in a sari
Sabine is the most camera shy of the three of us, as she prefers to be behind the camera, rather than in front. Here she looks colorful and beautiful in a turquoise sari.
Color blocking: red and blue
I’m doing some more color blocking with this Alldressedup silk blue dress. I love this outfit with this little red hat and my red shoes and I think some of these photos came out real nice too….
Color blocking: red and purple
Anja doing some color blocking with red and purple and my red hat. Sabine brought in some extra long scarves for some extra drama!
Flower drama
This is me wearing a colorful summer dress and for some extra drama even a mask!
All in all a wonderful day. Thanks you so much Sabine & Anja for the photos and the posing!

So what do you think? About the colors? The outfits? The photos? Do we need more women over 40 in the magazines and ads?

Nice, nice, nice! I absolutely like the red colour on you. It’s a colour I never saw you wearing before but for sure you should wear it more often! Love it!
Thanks Steph. That color red is just so bright! I prefer the color red of my little thumbnail. Apart from these clothes I don’t have much else in that bright color red…
You always surprise with your posts. These are a pleasure to look at! Great ladies and great poses!
Thanks Liliane. Such a pity you are no longer in Singapore. You would have made a great 40+ model. Be ready for some modeling in December!
Thanks Leonie. I’m loving your style as well. Lovely blog!
Great blog and gorgeous pictures! Very stylish.
Clutching The Bow
Fabulous colors on beautiful women. Yes, I believe that featuring older models would be a revolution. Featuring photos as you did on your post contributes to our visibility.
Thank you Judith. It’s a start.. You are a great contributor as well with your blog!
Love ALL of these looks and each one is so unique to its wearer–
and here here to more over 40 models! The world is not made of 20 year olds!
Thanks Paula!
All of you look beautiful! Love the colors, you are like tropical birds, so very pretty. Does Sabine wear her sari regularly, or is it reserved for special occasions? I have a caucasian friend who loves saris, but received some negative comments about wearing them so I’m wondering if it more acceptable in Singapore?
I’m not sure. I would think the latter. It’s very uncommon here as well for caucasians to wear saris.
I just shot some pics of a friend of mine who is 47 and is thinking about doing modelling. We had a blast. It looks like you ladies did too.
We had a blast indeed, but definitely don’t want to become a model! This was all for fun and learning how to be a better photographer. Are you going to show the pictures on your blog?
Your red shooting is so cool! I love the ight and the contrast of color with the green wall.
Thanks! Yes it’s a great color combo with the wall.
