As the weather turns, it’s time to embrace new seasonal trends. It’s a great time to reset your wardrobe, take a look at what you already have in your closet that you could reuse, and add some new pieces. In this article, you’ll find the biggest fall winter 2024 fashion trends, and how to wear them.
Fall winter 2024 fashion Trends
We were pleased to see new twists on timeless classics, beautiful fabrics, and sophisticated styles on the runways for Fall. Below, you can see our favorite trends for the new season.
Checks and plaid
Checks, tartan and plaid are always on trend and are beautiful patterns to wear in Fall. So, it may be that you already have some of this print in your wardrobe. You could wear top to toe print or simply opt for a check shirt with your jeans, or check pants with a plain top. You can also mix different sizes of check as Chanel did with the outfit (below, center).
Christian Dior – Chanel – Loewe
Shiny leather
Fall is a great time to start to experiment with different textures. We love that designers got colorful with their leather, rather than opting for only traditional black or brown. You can wear your leather as any part of your outfit and be on trend, so long as you opt for a color that isn’t the norm.
Roll necks
Another style perennial! Perhaps you just need to reach to the back of your closet, or you might want to refresh your basics by choosing a new turtle or roll neck top. Choose slimline roll necks and you can layer then under other clothes like pinafore dresses or white shirts, or opt for a cozy, chunky rollneck and keep the rest of your outfit slimline.
Victoria Beckham – Max Mara – Dries Van Noten
Feathers and fringe
Bringing a bit of fun to your Fall closets, there were lots of feathers and fringe on the designer catwalks. Choose a fringe skirt with a plain T-shirt or a sweater. Or wear a feather jacket over your party outfits.
Rabanne – Emporio Armani – Bottega Veneta
Satin
Satin brings a touch of glamour to any of your outfits. A satin coat is a great option to wear over your party outfits. Top-to-toe satin can be unforgiving by showing up every ‘lump and bump’. Instead, we love mixing satin with other textures like the Ralph Lauren outfit (below, center)
Victoria Beckham – Ralph Lauren – Prabal Gurung
Plenty of denim
Denim has never been out of style, but it is particularly on trend right now. So, wear as much denim as you want. And, don’t limit it to just your jeans. Take a look at this article on how to wear the denim trend for more inspiration.
Christian Dior – Chanel – Fendi
Leopard print
Leopard is one of those perennial prints that never dates, so you can invest in leopard print, safe in the knowledge that you will be able to wear it year after year. If you do opt for leopard print, we would choose one key item like a pair of leopard print shoes or clutch bag with your little black dress, a leopard print shirt with your favorite jeans, or choose a leopard jacket to wear over everything this season.
Marni – Rabanne – Dolce & Gabbana
Stylish suits
For a sophisticated party look this season, you don’t necessarily need to wear a dress. A suit can look just as glamorous. You can combine two trends in one by choosing satin in satin.
Emporio Armani – Prabal Gurung – Tom Ford
60s silhouette
60s silhouettes have been reinterpreted for a contemporary audience. The bateau neckline has a very 60s feel. Opt for a bateau neck dress or top. Or, choose a 60s style double-breasted jacket to wear with your skirts or jeans.
Luxurious knits
Knitwear is always a style staple of any Fall and winter wardrobe. But this season, think about elevating how you wear your knitwear. So, rather than simply wearing a simple outfit of a sweater and jeans, wear your knitwear for dresses, suits, and coordinates.
Western
Okay, we’re not suggesting that you go out looking as if you are going to a fancy dress party, but you can update your existing looks by adding a subtle take on Western style. For example, you could choose a fringe handbag, add a western style belt to your dresses, or keep the rest of your outfit simple and wear a fringed jacket as the star piece of your look.
Ralph Lauren – Edward Crutchley – Isabel Marant
Ladylike
If you love a ladylike silhouette, then you’re not alone. Many designers choose a retro feel to their outfits and sent their models down the catwalks looking like movie stars from days gone by. To get the look, make sure you are showing off your waistline to create an hourglass silhouette. Of, course, this is a great look for you if you do have an hourglass figure.
Barrel legs
Every season, there is a standout trouser style on the catwalks that makes its way to online stores and the high street. This season, that silhouette is the barrel style. Barrel leg trousers have a unique shape as they are wider at the hips and thighs, and taper down to the ankles.
This is different from more familiar straight, wide or skinny leg pants, so it may take some getting used to. Because they add volume around the hips and thighs, avoid these if you want to downplay your pear shape. They can work well for the inverted triangle as they can add balance or give the rectangle shape more curves.
Balmain – Emporio Armani – EUDON CHOI
Winter florals
While florals are usually a spring style staple, there were lots of flowers on the Fall catwalks too. Look out for florals against darker backgrounds. Or, wear your lighter florals with jeans or wide pants, or opt for a pale coat over a darker outfit.
Giorgio Armani – Giambattista Valli – Prabal Gurung
