Much of the world has been off limits for such a long time. But with Vegas returning to normal – if you can ever call Sin City “normal” of course – I thought it was time to take a look at what to wear to Vegas. Continue below for plenty of Las Vegas outfits for inspiration or to purchase online if you’re planning a trip.
What to consider when putting together your Las Vegas outfits
When planning your Las Vegas outfits here are a few things to keep in mind:
For much of the year, Vegas is very warm. But it definitely cools down during the winter months.
Plus, most of the buildings are air conditioned so you may find you get chilly if you go to the mall or for dinner. Be sure to pack an outer layer just in case. It’s all about layers when it comes to staying stylish and comfortable both inside and out.
Obviously what you plan to do will have a big bearing on what you pack. It’s likely you’ll have a mixed itinerary if your are in Vegas. So, you may want some glamorous eveningwear, some casual daywear, and some comfortable shoes for walking the strip.
Are you staying in Vegas itself or taking day trips?
Will you be staying in the city for your whole trip, or might you do a bit of hiking in the desert scenery around Vegas?
There’s nothing subtle about a destination that boasts a 540ft Eiffel Tower and its own Grand Canal, so it’s the perfect time to dress glamorously. Having said that, you’ll see plenty of casual wear on the strip too. Anything goes!
Now onto some Vegas outfits – daywear and then eveningwear
Now that you’re thinking about what you’re doing in Vegas, let’s move onto what to pack. You can, of course, alter this to suit your own plans…
A glamorous swimsuit
There are plenty of pool parties in Vegas. But even if you’re not partaking in one of those, you’ll probably want a swimsuit for around your hotel pool. For more inspiration and ideas, check our article on the best bathing suits.
Choose a cover-up you can pop on when you want to move from pool to bar, or pool to lunch. The wrap-style cover-up from Boden (below) could also be worn as a top with your leggings or skinny pants. Many more options can be found in our article on the best bathing suit cover ups.
Vegas is a pretty casual kind of place, at least during the day, so you’ll probably want a t-shirt you can wear with your shorts or jeans. You could always dress it up for evening by wearing with a skirt or wide-leg pants and accessorizing with a statement necklace and clutch bag.
It’s also a good idea to pack a top that you can dress up for the evening. The wrap style (below) would go with pretty much anything in your closet. Add some jewelry and you’ll be good to go.
Vegas tends to be more casual during the day, and then people dress up a bit more to go to the casinos, dinner or a show in the evening. A blazer is an easy way to make your outfit look more formal.
Wendy @fashionoverfifty.wendy above opts for a check blazer with her asymmetric hem skirt. You can see this would work for a business conference or evening and then you could wear the blazer with jeans for a more casual look.
As mentioned earlier, Vegas is definitely a mix of casual and more formal dressing so a pair of jeans is a must on your packing list. You could wear your jeans with a t-shirt and sneakers for a daytime walk along the strip, or add a dressier top and heels for evening.
day to evening pants
A pair of black pants or jeans are always handy as they’re easy to dress up or down.
a pair of cool shorts
It does get very hot outside during the summer in Vegas, so you may prefer to wear shorts rather than pants.
Natalia @nodin.stylish.me above shows how you could dress up your shorts for evening.
A glamorous evening dress
If you’re heading out to dinner or to one of the celebrity-headlined evening shoes, you’ll find many people dress up, so it’s a good idea to pack a dress for evening. You could add black leggings under the dress from Sam Edelman (below).
a versatile jumpsuit
A jumpsuit is a good versatile item to pack. You can wear with flats for day and heels for evening.
The Las Vegas strip is nearly 7km long, so you’ll definitely want some comfy shoes if you’re intending to walk it. The Vionic sandals (below) have a cushioned footbed so should keep you comfortable no matter how long you promenade.
You’ll find more comfortable, stylish shoes for walking in this article.
If you are getting dressed up in the evening, you may want some heels. If you aren’t comfortable with too high a heel, opt for a kitten heel or a block heel that is easier to walk in.
a clutch bag
To go with your evening outfits, a clutch bag that fits in your essentials is vital.
a secure travel bag
Plus, as with any busy tourist destination, it’s always important to keep your valuables secure. The Tumi crossbody (below) will keep your hands free. It has a zipped top for extra security.
some statement jewelry
When you’re packing, it’s important to think about how your clothes could work in different ways. Just adding a statement necklace to a t-shirt can change your look from day to evening.
Your Las Vegas outfits together in one capsule
Now let’s look at how you could wear some of the items featured above. You can see you can easily mix and match the items to create different vacation outfits.
For instance, you could wear the dress over the skinny black pants, or team the cover-up wrap with either pair of jeans. You could wear either of the jeans or the jumpsuit with the blazer.
