Do you have a favorite style decade? I don’t really feel I belong to any style area really. Let’s see what I like of each decade:
20s: Fun, mysterious and I love the straight and comfortable dresses and dropped waistlines. I actually wear that style quite a lot
30s: nothing really stands out for me in this decade.
40s: I do like some old hollywood glam, and this style is back in fashion. Focus on the waist and tight ladylike skirts. This style is often too uncomfortable for me, so it can’t be my favorite.
50s: wide skirts and rock and roll. I wear wide skirts sparingly and when I do I want to mix them up a little!
60s: I love the minis and the colors, but I feel that most of the looks are no longer suitable for me. I’m in love with furniture from the 60s though and it can be found throughout my house.
70s: Bohemian and hippy style characterises this area and that’s not really my thing, although I love the wide legged pants.
80s: No I don’t think I want to go back to the shoulder pads, but I do like structured blazers
90s: Grunge, demin and streetstyle characterize that area, and although I like my jeans on occasion, I prefer to be a bit dressier.
I like different things from different decades so am not really defined by one. But for this post I went with the twenties! When I want something comfortable and easy to wear, that is still fun and fashionable, I often opt for what I refer to as my charleston dress. Only because it reminds me of the twenties and I feel like dancing the charleston in it. Not that I really know that dance….
You can jump pretty good in this dress too!
It’s a full jersey dress which I bought in Amsterdam in a local shop there. No idea what the brand is, as I cut that out. Some of my recurring elements are present in this dress as well, like asymmetry. Here the back is totally different from the front.
What I like about this dress is that it is really comfortable! You can move, dance, jump, run a marathon in this dress without any issues. It’s usually worn with flats like these ones which I snapped up in a local shop in Tuscany, during my holiday 2 years ago.
The jewelry is playful as well and adds a bit of color to the outfit. Both were bought at a market in Shanghai, where jewelry is cheap, cheap, cheap! For more info on the watch see my versatile design watches.
What is your favorite style decade!

Love the style and color on you, and your fun poses. I love every era! There is always something that speaks to me from the past.
Thanks Judith. Yes, history offers some great inspiration..
That’s a great dress! I love the teal color and the style, with all those ruffles, is really fun.
Thanks. Yes it’s a good dress if I’m a bit in an easygoing and fun mood!
I love your blue dress! You look great in that color. 🙂
I admire Nicole Richie for her “boho-chic” style. I think this is from the late 60’s, early 70’s. Both her fashion line (Winter Kate) and jewelry (House of Harlow) appeal to me and I often adore the outfits she is seen in. The other night she wore a long lavender gown to the MOCA Gala and I remembered I have one very similar in the back of my closet. Nicole has inspired me to wear it to my next formal event. She is a hippie but is always polished.
I like floaty skirts, maxi dresses, flared jeans, big (my hubby thought they were bracelets!) hoop earrings, crocheted ponchos, and platform shoes. I have a floppy brim brown felt hat I wear with my fleece and leather jacket which may be a 70’s look too. My second choice would be the 50’s and Grace Kelly’s style. I love a cinched waist with a very full skirt, pearls, and a structured handbag.
All sounds wonderful Suzanne! It’s nice to draw inspiration from all decades that have gone before…
Oh, that’s a great dress. I have a couple that are tiered like that and they are fun.
As for style decades, I’m a live in the moment kind of person, but I do like the wideleg and flare pants that are around now, and the longer skirt lengths. Perhaps this makes me a child of the 70s. Which I actually am, so there you go.
Thanks for the feedback Cynthia. I too am loving the flared pants. They look different from the ones my neighbor was wearing then though, but he was a guy and I still don’t like flared pants on men…
I do love the glamorous 70’s style, although it’s not a style that I wear much myself. You look great in that dress!
I should revisit that time sometimes and post some old images of myself during that time, although I was quite preppy then. I can still remember my older neighbour wearing these really wide pants and me hating them! But I adored ABBA and their outrageous outfits!
