Colour blocking for fun

by Sylvia

color blocking in red, blue and white

After a week of relaxation and detox (for detox results be sure to read my final article on my detox retreat in Thailand), I felt the need to be colourful! So I thought why not combine this season’s major trends into a one outfit? Using 3 blocks of colour this outfit turns quite graphical. If I had had some great yellow watch or bangle I may have added it as well and give it a true Mondriaan feel!

colorblocking, graphical and colorful

The silhouette makes it quite ladylike and the top is certainly bright enough to fit the brights trend. However, most of all I wore this outfit because it’s fun and makes me happy!

Alldressedup and zara outfit

With the outfit reasonably simple I like to add statement jewellery. My Bruno Nimaber watch always succeeds in adding extra style and the white band breaks the otherwise too 2 colored outfit. The wide cuff adds a litte extra character. I even added one of Heels Diva’s shoe accessories as as a brooch for more fun. The white bag is nothing special, but I liked adding a white bag for a more graphical feel to the outfit and it’s certainly practical!

Red and blue outfit

I also tucked my top in at the front and left it open at the back. Although the top looks quite simple from the front it has a lot happening at the back. It certainly gives the back of the outfit a lot more character and draws attention away from my rather flat bottom. Have a look of how I wore the red top before.

Have you tried out color blocking yet? And what have you been wearing this weekend?

Dear Sylvia, wow, you look absolutely FAB! This outfit is indeed very feminine AND flattering. The lipstick also works wonders for you. The whole look is both stylish and happy. And look, how cool it works out to use a shoe accessory as a brooch. I do that myself as well, with my Heels Diva Shoe Clips. As I also sometimes put one in my hair or clip one on a belt. They are so versatile! It’s nice to see how much fun you are having playing around with your clothes and accessories. I enjoy that myself too! Creative idea to leave the top out at the back; works well! And were you aware of the very Dutch nature of your red-blue-and-white combo;-)?! Hahaha!

Thanks Anja. Of course I got the idea for the brooch from you you. I have already worn it in my hair as well! Not yet on my shoes but I’m sure that will happen soon. Yes, was aware of the flag combi but this outfit gave me more of a mondriaan feel. I was tempted to wear a yellow belt! (but didn’t have one)

Thanks. Yes, the back is fun and I love that front is quite plain. You can still easily wear this top under jackets etc.

You look fit and healthy and are glowing with happiness. I think the retreat really did you a world of good. I am going to check out this detox idea. :)
I love your outfit. It is ladylike and sexy at the same time. I have a nice navy skirt but want a fabulous top like yours to wear with it now. You are always an inspiration.

I didn’t recognize the blouse at first because of the flower. Then You pointed out I had seen the blouse before: the time you wore it with your light coloured skirt. Very very pretty blouse. Makes me melancholic for the days when I could still show my arms. Enjoy it while you can.
As all the others have already said: you look fantastic. Very clever to use the big white bag. I visited Monday Mingle and browsed around. The more blogs I visit, the more I appreciate your blog. I think yours is the best for me. By the way, when I clicked on the visible Monday-link, your own page opened…..???..

This top has become one of my favorites. Very easy to wear with lots of my clothes. Thanks for pointing out the incorrect link. It’s fixed now.

You have such a nice figure and look so good in everything. This outfit looks so good on you. I like the brooch too.

Thanks. The brooch is actually a shoe clip but can also be used as a brooch as well as for your hair!

You inspired me to compose a red, white and blue outfit with jeans (it is still a little chilly in Holland). I have put it on your Style Forum in the section “what I wore”.
I think I gave to look for a new jacket. It seems to have shrunk (or I bought it too tight, but was in denial, haha.
