As I mentioned before, I spotted this flower skirt from Preen when I was looking for alternatives for my other Preen skirt. Just as I was copying the links, I noticed that it was my size, seemed to be the same model and fabric as my current skirt and that I really, really liked it.
I decided to buy the skirt and could not be happier. The fabric is indeed the same as my other skirt (stretchable cotton) and it fits me like a glove.
This successful purchase actually inspired my new shopping strategy for getting more high quality items like this in my closet.
Some of you may be surprised by this purchase as usually flowers are on my ‘no’ list, but these flowers are something else. For one there are these graphical stripes at the front and back of the skirt which make the print special and more unique.
I had to laugh when my husband commented on those ‘weird’ stripes and why they were breaking the pattern! To me the stripes are the highlight of the skirt as it makes the skirt more graphical and lets me play with additional colors. I especially like to combine it with red, but would love to play with yellow too at some time.
I also love the back of the skirt where the red is more prominent and I love the way the print gradually faints at the bottom of the skirt.
As I’m all about mixing blues currently I enjoyed wearing it with this dark short denim jacket which is at least 10 years old. It makes the skirt more casual and perfect for daytime wear.
This outfit is also a good example of how you can combine low-end with high-end clothing, as the blouse was a super cheap find at H&M. I bought it especially for my Namibia safari but it’s proven to be a favorite for many other outfits as well.
Accessories highlighted the red in this look with red shoes, bag, sunglasses and bracelet. I kept my necklace very subtle and neutral.
Earlier I wore the skirt with my blue leather top for an evening event. Again, I used red accessories and carried my red bag, wore my red bracelet and wore my slightly dressier red shoes.
I have many more ideas on how I can wear this skirt and I know I’m going to have a lot of fun with this one!
Skirt: Preen by Thornton Bregazzi (bought in sale at Yoox)
Shirt: H & M
Denim jacket: Sportsgirl (very old)
Bracelet: Jewelry to Your Doorstep
Sunglasses: Loewe (old)
Shoes, wedges: ToBe (old)
Leather top: Cigno Nero similar (but a lot more expensive…)
Shoes, heel: Players (old)
Have you been mixing high-end and low-end and old and new recently?

Hi Sylvia,
That is one gorgeous skirt, and so many beautiful ways to wear it! You have inspired me to pull out my neglected spring skirts, but I do have a question about women over 60 (soon to be 61 here) and pantyhose or the lack thereof. Should we wear sheers with sandals for a nicer look, or wear leg makeup to hide spider veins, or au natural? What do you think?
When it comes to tights I believe you should dress fir the weather. If it’s hot go natural. I really don’t mind seeing a few spider veins and natural is beautiful. When it’s cold wear sheer tights. I think women look rather silly stepping outside in bear legs when clearly the weather is too cold. You will look your best when you are comfortable within your clothes!
I love the skirt.
Just wondering how it would look with accessories in different colors, not so classicaly matched … (eg pink or light blue shoes, beige bag …). Not sure though, but I always TRY to set a different color accent.
Yes there is quite a lot you can do with this skirt. I think yellow may be a lot of fun to match with it..
Just fabulous Sylvia! I so love your outfit.
Great skirt! Wonderful pattern and color. The leather top is my fav but the denim is looks great too. Just saw some pants at BCBG that were so you, short asymmetric skirt over a slim pant and all in one garment. Very cool and modern, I could see you wearing it.
Can you send me a link? I would love to see them. You always find the best pieces for me!
Gorgeous skirt, Sylvia! I love the way the stripes and the red at the back. I can see how you will be able to use this for many different outfits!
Thanks Anita. Yes I think this will be a wardrobe favorite!
That is a great skirt and I love the way you styled it with the pop of red in the shoes and bag. The leather top is pretty amazing too!

Thank you Lyn!
Adore this skirt! Great find!
Thanks. I think so too. So happy with it!
The Stripes Make It More Than Just A Floral Skirt. Love It.
Exactly what I thought Pauline. Thanks for the kind feedback!
The skirt looks great with the leather top. I like the tough vs. sweet/romantic contrast. Nice tension.
Yes me too, but I was happy with my day time look as well!
Lovely look! The stripes actually appear to be a rope-like belt on my wee ipod 4. Love it all. 🙂
Thanks Sheryl. Yes it is a beautiful design detail.
Fantastic skirt. I had a look at Preen at De Bijenkorf in January but couldn’t find anything with 70% marked off.
You made a very good purchase with this skirt and styled it very well. Love the red with it. I do like the stripes, unlike your husband.
A very elegant lady you are.

Yes, you really need to be lucky with these things. I will be sure to check De Bijenkorf again in the summer!
Beautiful combination!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind feedback Eva!
Love the red bag…details?
The bag is unbranded and I bought it in a small shop in The Netherlands years ago…
Aaaaw, this is so wonderful Silvia, red totally suits you and the skirt is cute and sexy at the same time with just the right dash of elegant. love adding touches of red myself. But the leather top is my personal favorite. Sabina | Oceanblue Style
Thanks Sabine. I like both looks but feel the denim jacket look is better for day time.
You have such a great eye for interesting pieces!!! Absolutely love the skirt, because it’s the showcase of the outfit! Jodie

Thank you Jodie, it sure is!
LOVE this! I’d wear it all in a heartbeat.
I don’t have much high end in my closet. I end up mixing more thrift/vintage and Anthro pieces.
The skirt is very unique. Great choice!

I could see you wear this indeed. Would look great with your red hair. I actually colored my own hair a bit more red. It’s still drying so not sure yet of the end result!
Beautiful skirt! I love the print fade, too.
Thanks Patti!
if you miss the whole outfit incl. bag and shoes one day – i have it stolen 🙂
absolutely fabulous!!!!!!! extra points for using things for (10!) years and buying selected high end!
xxxx
Haha, I will guard it heavily! Thanks Beate.
