Here are a few celebrities spotted at the New York City Ballet Gala. Not all featured women are 40 yet, but I wanted to include them here so we can all be inspired by their style.
1. Christine Lagarde
Christine Lagarde (1956) is a French lawyer and Union for a Popular Movement politician who has been the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund since 5 July 2011. She is well known for her great style is wearing a unique two-piece ensemble this evening.
2. Olivia Palermo
Olivia Palermo is an American socialite who seems to be everywhere these days and is a style icon for many. This style has been quite popular at awards shows recently, but I’m personally not a huge fan, even though Olivia does wear it extremely well.
4. Michelle Smith
Michelle Smith de Bruin (1969) is a retired Irish swimmer who achieved notable success in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, becoming Ireland’s most successful Olympian to date. She is is currently a practising barrister. I love this chic ensemble that makes a color statement.
5. Candace Beinecke
Candace Beinecke is one of the top lawyers in the US and works as the Chair of Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP. A gorgeous woman in a beautiful dress!
6. Julie Henderson
Julie Henderson (1986) is an American model known for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. She looks stunning in this lace gown.
7. Elettra Wiedermann
Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann (1983) is an American fashion model and socialite. I like the unique color of this dress
8. June Ambrose
Costume designer and celebrity fashion stylist shows of her great style in this beautiful gown.
9. Patti Smith
Last but not least there is the inimitable Patti Smith, who still looks like a rock star.
It is very possible that there are more celebrities in all the photos I have from the ballet gala, but these are the women either I or Denton recognised. You will have to help me spot other celebrities as I have many more gorgeous looks to show you in future posts!
Which of these looks is your favorite?

Re Olivia Palermo’s gown, which I DO like, I should mention that it’s a Valentino. As both Valentino and his partner Giancarlo Giammetti were there, and it seemed they all shared a table, I suppose this was all worked out in advance.
patti smith don´t need to follow any “style advice” – she´´s an icon!
and she got there without even trying to be pretty! awesome!!!!
Love Christine LaGarde’s look. Simply Fab!
I totally agree with all your comments. I especially like Michelle Smith, although a dangerous look with the bare arms. Well, she can still pull it off.
June Ambrose.
I’m not a fan of the velvety looking overlay in dresses 2, 5, and 6 and totally don’t understand Patti Smith.
1 & 6
All of these women look beautiful, but I vote for Patti Smith. She is always true to herself and effortlessly cool.
Agree,her look makes me smile
Yes vote for Patti. I’m a big fan.
Christine LaGarde never disappoints – she knows her style and works it. Brilliant in her field as well! xo
Confused by the photo of Patti Smith. She looks terrible–the outfit is dreadful, hair unwashed, and basically, look like she just doesn’t care about herself.
I agree. I’m glad she is comfortable dressing this way, but it doesn’t look like a plan.
I don’t think Patti Smith’s Iphone beeped two hours before and she just jumped up and said ‘oops, better throw on some clothes and get over there’. Her outfit is carefully constructed (imo) to reflect who and what she is. Even anti-fashion is fashionable done right.
