Here are the first outfit pictures of me post-haircut. As you can see the haircut is not that drastic as I decided to keep it at shoulder length. This still enables me to put it in a pony tail, but the shorter length can also be styled better as a lose hairdo. I also went slightly blonder.
My inspiration for this haircut was this picture of Heidi Klum. Thanks again to all of you who gave me advice for my new haircut!
Meeting a reader
When you start blogging you open yourself up to new opportunities and friendships. I’m now connecting with some of you on a daily basis and getting to know new women every day. And every now and then someone sends me an email that they will be coming over to Singapore. So it was, that I made an appointment to meet Elisabeth who was coming all the way from California to attend a conference in Singapore.
What I wore
I choose to wear my light brown JNBY dress. As I find this dress too short, I wore it over my very versatile cream dress which is a great basic to combine with other tunics and dresses. Have a look at how I wore both dresses before here and here.
As before, I found it hard to decide whether or not wear a necklace with the dress. It is asymmetrical at the top and already quite busy, but I really need a bit of extra color. I chose to wear the necklace in the end, as I like the extra pop of red, certainly when I’m wearing the dress without the handbag. What do you think?
Haji Lane
As our shopping destination, I thought Elisabeth would really like Haji Lane, a fun shopping street here in Singapore with a lot of independent shops. First we had lunch in Pieda Negra, a nice mexican restaurant right at the start of Haji Lane. Luckily we got along really well, and conversation was fun and continuous. Then we were off to explore Haji Lane.
Shopping for Elisabeth
Elisabeth tried on a number of drresses and tops but unfortunately couldn’t find anything she liked and that fit. We were both very keen on this very chic dress (see below left), but unfortunately, it was not available in her size… After some coffees, we only just managed to snap a picture of the 2 of us together before it was starting to rain (hard). Since Elisabeth had not been able to find anything, we decided to head on over to one of the main shopping malls here in Singapore, which would also shelter us from the rain.
And I’m happy to say that Elisabeth found a great outfit at Zara. Unfortunately, no pictures, but hopefully she can share some with us some day. As our last stop we also visited Ecco where I bought my new shoes which were featured in this week article on mid heel shoes. She managed to buy a great looking blue pair!
What have you been up to this weekend and what did you wear?

Hi! What time do the shops in Haji Lane open? Thanks!
Hi Mava, It differs per shop but many don’t open until 1 or 2 pm!
Thanks! I’m planning to visit it. Are there cheap finds? 🙂
There often are. The clothes I wore in this post as well are all from Haji Lane and all at rock bottom prices (some around $20) but you need to be lucky! https://40plusstyle.com/black-and-white-pattern-mixing-have-you-tried-it-yet/
Will check it out..hope me and my friends get lucky! Thanks for the info, Sylvia!
You would never know that was two different dresses. It totally gives off a fabulous colorblock effect!
Thanks Kristin. It makes all the difference with this dress and makes it far more wearable and interesting!
Well, you look really good in that outfit – I suppose it would look good over black as well as cream. Because of you, I have decided that I wear too much black – in fact pretty much only black, mostly because it’s slimming, and easy! I will now look for grey (which is hard to do actually) with red or turquoise accessories – you have inspired me greatly!!! I also agree with a lower heel – it is better for our feet. Not too high, not too low, but there are not enough shoes out there like that are there?
Great Petra. So happy that I can inspire you to wear more colour! Would love to see how you do. If you like you can post your looks into our forum!
I love your hair!
Love how you combined the dresses…created a totally different look. And, yes to the necklace!
Thanks Jeannie for the feedback. Most people seem to agree that the necklace is good!
that dress is amazing.
Thanks Megan
What a fun dress. I love the unusual draping.
Thank you, I always love the unusual…
I absolutely love this dress…the beautiful neutral color is perfect. I also love the color of accessories you decided to go with. This soft neutral will have me looking for this color…and I really like your hair!
Thanks Pam. This neutral brown would look great with many colours. Last time I used turquoise but it would also be perfect with orange. Good luck with finding something similar!
I agree on the red necklace. I would also have chosen to wear it. Your haircut and style is perfect. Well done.
And what a pity about the dress… you did take a picture of Elizabeth in it, but I suppose it was too tight to move in.
This weekend I did the same as you: a friend came over and we went shopping in Haarlem. And bought slim fit oranje trousers (they feel like jogging pants… lovely) with a matching vest. The sales lady gave me a little necklace as a gift. How nice. That had never happened to me before. And I scored a darker yellow short sweater with little blue stars. So I am happy. My budget and bank are not.
It was bright sunny weather and spring items are in the shop. Irresistable.
thanks Greetje, that all sounds great! I look forward to seeing your new outfits!
Lovely post!
Thanks Tamara!
Great pics of what looks to be delightful blogger meet-up!
She is not a blogger (yet) but it’s fun to meet new people through my blog!
What a fun excursion. The red bag was the perfect accessory! This week, I’m looking to break a black habit and shed some light on my wardrobe! Here’s my post:

Thanks Nicole!
I love your dress, the draping is gorgeous! I just discovered you from Monday Mingle!
Welcome and thanks for visiting!
I love your new haircut and colour, you look great! Shame about that dress, your friend looks absolutely gorgeous in it! And about the blue shoes – they are almost exact the same as my tan ones that I mentioned in a previous post, only mine are not Ecco. Still wintery here, so I’ mostly wearing knits and boots:)
Thanks Nanne. Ecco seems to be like a good shop for comfortable shoes. I will definitely shop there again…
I noticed the lighter blond color of your hair right off the bat. I like the length too! I almost always wear my hair tied back…and perhaps I should be looking for ways to wear it loose more often. I’m admiring that dress on Elizabeth!
Yes, we both loved that dress. Pity it was not available in her size…
I really like your haircut and the lighter color! It is very attractive. 🙂 I am so happy for you.
I am watching the Oscars as I write this. I saw 3 Elie Saab dresses – Mila Jovovich was in white, Kate Mara in pink, and Berenice Bejo in that gorgeous mint color. I saw one Armani – a lavender/blue shade on Penelope Cruz. It was perfection! I liked Emma Stone’s big red bow dress but I bet the critics won’t. Sandra Bullock was lovely in a white and black gown but I don’t know who designed it. I think my favorite is Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. It was an amazing dress – unforgetable.
I have not seen all the dresses yet, but boy do I love Gwyneth Paltrow. I should feature her as a 40+ style icon soon, because she always gets it so right! Also loved Ellie Kemper in Armani Prive. Have not seen all the others you mentioned. Will have to check them out!
Love that blue shoes!
Kim,USA
Thanks Kim!
What fun you two had – thanks for sharing your pictures! Haji Lane looks fantastic. I do like your red accents with the pretty coffee-color dress. Thanks so much for linking up to Visible Monday.
Thanks Patti. Yes it’s a fun street. Hopefully you will be able to come as well some time…
