Dressing for the in-between weather that spring can bring can be tricky. But, it can also give you some of the most stylish outfit options there are. When putting together a spring capsule wardrobe, think layers, classic options like a trench coat and the chance to introduce some sunny colors to your looks.
What to think about when putting together a spring capsule wardrobe
Are you a fan of the capsule wardrobe idea? Depending on where you live, you might decide to have one capsule wardrobe for each season. Or it may be that you keep some of your basics in your capsule year-round and add new colors or items for spring.
If you are busy putting together a capsule wardrobe for spring, here are some things to think about.
A spring capsule needs layers, layers, layers
As spring is a transitional season, it’s often hard to know what the weather is going to do. Layers and lightweight coats are definitely your style friends during spring.
Add some color and print to your spring clothes
When spring, well, springs, it can be the perfect time to add some color into your closet. I’ve been inspired by sunny yellow with the odd floral print for this collection as, hopefully, you’re starting to see a touch of sunshine and the flowers are starting to bloom where you are.

Read on to see if you agree with my choices for spring – there are 4 tops, 4 coats and cardigans, 4 bottoms, 4 dresses and skirts, 4 pairs of shoes and 7 accessories – so 27 items in total, which should allow you to put together countless outfits.
The clothes and accessories I have chosen feature many of the colors and trends on the spring runways for 2020, including beautiful shades of blue and yellow, come monochrome and polka dots.

Spring capsule: Tops
When choosing tops for spring, I’d think about a mix of shirts and t-shirts that you can wear alone, if it’s warm enough, or layered up with a cardigan or sweater.

Spring style: Coats and cardigans
Depending on the weather where you are, you may find your heavy wool coat is simply too warm for spring. Instead, think about a trench or moto, or you could always wear a cardigan rather than a coat if it’s not raining.

Spring trends: Pants and jeans
Jeans are always a staple of any closet, no matter what the season. You could always opt for a lighter shade of jeans, or a cropped pair to add some spring style.
Spring dresses and skirts
If you’ve been living in jeans and pants during winter, it could be time to mix things up a bit and opt for a dress or a skirt. If it’s still chilly where you are, you could always wear with opaque tights and booties.

Shoes and booties
For spring, you will want a variety of shoes in your style arsenal. A pair of booties and sneakers will be perfect for more casual looks, while sandals will be perfect if the weather is warm enough and a pair of slingbacks will see you through more formal occasions.

Accessories to wear in spring
No matter what the season, the difference between a good outfit and a great one is often how you choose to accessorize. Add a lightweight scarf, some sunglasses and contemporary jewelry, and you’re good to go!

Putting together your capsule wardrobe into these spring looks
Below you can see some of the clothes and accessories featured above in one spring capsule wardrobe. You can see now that the outfits are put together how I’ve been inspired by yellows, blues and some monochrome.
While there are 9 outfits below, you could easily put together all of these items in different ways to make countless more. For instance, the bright blue shirt would also look lovely with the white jeans or you could wear the polka dot dress with the moto jacket or yellow cardigan.
I’d love to know what you think of the capsule. Let me know in the comments below.
