Today I like to show you a few more variations from my winter capsule wardrobe, plus I invite you to join you a mini challenge and a new private Facebook group!
I had actually wanted to do an entirely new style challenge in the beginning of December, but sometimes life gets in the way and I’m just not able to do it at this time. Still, it will happen some time in the new year. I will do something entirely different and it will be lots of fun and very exciting!
One of the things that I’m introducing already is a new Private Facebook group. I think it will make interacting within the 40+ Style community a whole lot easier. Since many of you don’t like to show pictures of yourself publicly on the web or found them difficult to upload to my old style forum, I think the private facebook format will be perfect. This facebook group will replace the style forum and will be open to previous forum members and style course members only. You can access it here.
I feel that the private style forum will be a great opportunity to learn both from me and other participants. Sharing images of yourself and ideas can be truly beneficial in evolving your style. If you are not yet a member, you may like to consider it now!
Mini Challenge
Now that my main challenge will have to wait for a bit, perhaps you would like to join the mini challenge!
I already showed you my winter capsule wardrobe so why don’t you create something similar?
Have a look at the wardrobe you already have. Could you create a little winter wardrobe capsule? You can start with a basic one:
– 2 pants
– 1 skirt
– 2 light tops (worn single but also used for layering)
– 2 warmer tops
– 1 blouse (worn single but also for layering)
– 1 blazer or jacket
– 1 coat
– 2 scarves (1 silk/polyester and 1 warm one)
Here are the items I picked for my basic capsule.
And some extra ones just for fun and even more variation.
Although you will get very far with just the above, you may like to add a few more pieces for fun and variation.
– 1 long vest or sleeveless coat
– 1 dress
– 1 boyfriend jeans
– 1 light fancy top
– 1 tights or leggings (to wear with dress or vest)
– 1 poncho
– 3 layering tops
Your challenge!
Create your wardrobe capsule for the coming 3 weeks and show me what you wear. You can use my capsule as an example. Try to create similar outfits to the ones I’m wearing.
If you find creating a capsule all too much work, just show me a similar outfit as I’m wearing today!
Today’s and tomorrow’s outfit formula is simple: pants (in my case skinnies) plus nice top (in this case an asymmetrical top).
I’m sure you will all have something like this in your wardrobe.
Your special challenge
Make a simple outfit like this interesting. For example, the top itself can be interesting (drape and asymmetry) or you can add an accessory like jewelry or a scarf to make it special.
I could actually have worn this top better. Here are 2 more variations on how you can wear it, which I have since done also. (see how fun a top like this is; you can wear it many different ways!)
A drapy top like this is super comfy and perfect for days when it’s not so cold. When it’s a bit colder or when you go outside, just add your versatile blanket scarf!
Here is another outfit from the capsule that follows this formula.
Join the mini challenge and show me your looks!
Want to show me your looks? Upload them to the private Facebook forum, the 40+Style Facebook page or add a link to your photo in the comments below. If you managed to assemble your own capsule wardrobe, I’d love to see images of that also. I may even share some of the images in the next mini challenge post for those that like to.
You can upload an image of you wearing pants and a top for Monday and Tuesday. We will do another 2 outfits from this capsule on Wednesday.
As always, have fun dressing ladies and I look forward to see you on Facebook or in the comments section below.
Clothing details of the entire capsule can be found here.
Aubergine top: Stella Carakasi
Cream skinnies: Zara
Scarf: Zara
Gray top: Stella Carakasi
Shoes: Laura Bellariva
Necklace: Suzanne Carillo
Do you like to wear skinnies and just a top? Which is your current favorite combination?

I think the Facebook page is off to a good start. Great!
And I love the aubergine top on you. Also the second outfit because of the way you kept a monochrome look in silver with that lovely Suzanne necklace.
The capsule wardrobe is a great idea for the fall and winter. The Wardrobe Mistress and I have missed your mini-challenges!

I love, love, love this wardrobe and would copy it all piece by piece, if I could. I do have one question, though, and would ask all wearers of the skinny-jean-booties-combo this season: don’t your ankles get cold? In the winter, all I wear is boot-cut trousers/jeans and boots, or skirts and boots. I’ve been wondering this for some time, because I’d love to have my classic black ankle pants do double duty in the fall, but it’s just too chilly.
Thanks Ikla. I wear my booties with socks in winter. Mine are actually big enough that I can wear knee high nylons + socks with them. Socks will be in the same color as pants so it’s leg lengthening too.
Take a look at my blog post today. My Fall Inspiration Board is there.
Let me know what you think.
PS, I used to be a Stylist at Sak’s 5th Avenue.
Very nice Marsha! (for others that want to have a look, it’s at http://www.splenderosa.blogspot.com/2014/11/this-that.html)
I am loving that you are wearing the items I gifted you : )
It is snowing here right now so I think I would need a few more layers.
One thing I’m really learning from you is that I need some tops that aren’t don’t have a pattern. Almost everything I own is patterned and it makes it impossible to create a capsule like this.
bisous
Suzanne
Well, you gave me some amazing things. How could I not wear them?
Already snowing?? wow… Feel free to add sweaters Suzanne!
Yes solids are definitely important, although I could have easily included a printed top in the capsule also. But then, at least I added print and texture with the scarves 🙂
You look great in all the outfits, but I think the purple is my favourite; oh yes and I do like the tartan wrap, it really suits you.
Thanks Aileen. That wrap is such a success. Easy to wear, keeps me warm and brightens up all the other clothes.
Great capsule, Sylvia. I’m living in jeans and tees and interesting jewelry right now. xox
You are doing fabulous with your wardrobe Patti. Love the great variation and your use of color!
