Between classic, feminine styling with a sporty edge and amazing scenic shots, we can’t get enough of Gaby Mayr’s blog, Stylish Salat. We take a peek into the Munich based fashionista’s style inspirations. Enjoy!
Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?
I am a fashion passionate mother of two sons and live with my husband in the greater area of Munich. Besides having my fashion blog I also support my husband with his business. If I am not working or writing blog articles, I am playing tennis or go hiking in the beautiful alps.
As a point of reference, which age group do you belong to or perhaps you are willing to share your age?
I belong to the age group above 50 and I am 57.
Can you tell us a bit more about your blog Stylish Salat and why you created it?
A friend of my son has her own fashion blog and this was also the first time I heard about fashion blogs. I was fascinated by her style and started looking for blogs which where more focused on my age group. Unfortunately I could not find that many, however, one of the ones I found was indeed 4oplusstyle.com. Due to the lack of fashion blogs for my age group I decided that I need to share my passion about fashion and Stylish Salat was born.
How would you describe your own personal style?
Modern, feminine, sporty, but I also like to combine various styles.
What would you consider the most important components of your style?
Combine outfits in many different ways.
Where do you live and how does this influence your style?
I live in the greater area of Munich which is a great source of inspiration because you see so many well dressed people in this city. In my opinion this has also helped me to be more adventurous in regards to fashion.
Do you feel you have a signature style?
Yes in my opinion it is a mixture between sporty and elegant.
What inspires your outfit choices the most?
That really depends on the occasion and how I feel. Usually I just walk in front of my wardrobe to get some inspiration and many times I create new looks just like that.
Do you take things like color profiling or body type into account when you dress?
Of course, I prefer the light and soft colours as they underline my complexion, compared to strong colours which I do not feel comfortable wearing.
Has your style changed at all after turning 40?
All my life I had more or less the same style but with getting older I maybe became a bit more adventurous with styles.
Do you believe in dressing ‘age appropriately’ and what does it mean to you?
I think that when you are above 50 you should pay attention that skirts and dresses are not too short. Furthermore I would not wear dresses or shirts with a plunging neckline. I think there are many other ways to look great even if you reach a certain age. For example, I like to focus on extraordinary cuts.
Would you say that at this stage of your life you are now more, or less interested in fashion, style and the way you look?
Over the years fashion has become more and more important to me, because I realised how much you can express with style and outfits.
Why is the way you look important to you?
I love my life and if I feel comfortable with my outfit I will show this with a positive aura, and everyone around me can see that I am happy.
Do you follow trends? And if yes, which trends excite you at the moment?
I see new trends as a refresher for my wardrobe and I like to combine old outfits with new, in this way I often create new stunning looks. Currently I like to experiment with oversized pullovers and blouses.
Do you have any fashion and style tips for women over 40?
Get the basics right and buy some silk blouses or cashmere pullovers, but also solid shoes and nice handbags to pep up every outfit. However most important do not masquerade yourself, just be you.
What are your plans for your blog and how do you see it developing over the coming years?
I really enjoy blogging as I like to inspire people to look great and help them to find their personal style. Hopefully I can continue doing that for many more years. Furthermore I am thinking of maybe starting to blog about healthy food as this is my other passion.
Anything further you would like to add?
I just want to thank you and I feel very honoured that I can be part of this great series of interviews.

Wow, every outfit is spot on. Love them all.
Gaby is a very stylish lady. I am following her blog for quite some time now. Although there are a lot of photos of her in this interview wearing trousers, I know she rocks skirts as well.
Gaby looks great in every single picture. I like her color combinations.
Love Gaby’s stye and I can’t believe she’s 57! Fabulous looks! Susan http://www.themidlifefashionista.com

I follow Gaby`s blog since several years and I am always amazed by her elegance and style.
Greetings Andrea
I’d like to see your summer wardrobe. Here in central Texas, most of this one would not be wearable because of the temperature even in the winter. I do like your style!
