It’s fun to be a tourist in your own country so on this beautiful sunny day, my family decided to go and discover Volendam.
Volendam is a local tourist attraction and known for its cute old harbour and picturesque settings. Unfortunately, it has become a bit too touristy for our liking so we really had to go off the beaten track to find some of its old charm.
Like these pretty small canals.
And the cute little houses.
The pull-up bridges that still look cute but are no longer in use.
A great back drop for my outfit naturally!
The outfit itself is pretty basic and not totally as planned. I had actually wanted to wear it with my gray moto jacket. Alas as it was hot indoors I forget to take it!
So we are left with my fabulous skirt from Porto and my super basic (but oh so versatile) blouse from H&M. The accessories finish the look and add more texture and color.
A little bit disappointed with Volendam, we decided to go to nearby Edam as well, which is world famous for its cheese.
Edam is smaller and not nearly as touristy as Volendam even though in many ways it’s prettier.
It has beautiful canals and bridges….
historic houses and plenty of lovely terraces where you can find all the Dutch on a sunny day…
and cute cobblestone streets that take you back in time.
Lovely little churches….
old historic bridges…
and picturesque views that would make for great postcards.
Edam is tiny but I prefer it to Volendam and is a great afternoon trip if you are visiting the Netherlands as it’s not so far from Amsterdam.

Hi Sylvia,
We were just in Amsterdam at the beginning of July and we love, love, love the city. I’ll have to go to Edam on our next visit, because it looks so quaint. Great pictures of you and the landscapes (kudos to the photographer). Sounds like I just missed you being in town. That would have been such a treat to have coffee with you.
x Laura
What a pity Laura that I did not know you were there. It would have been fabulous to meet!
Love the outfit, especially the shoes. Wow you live in one beautiful place!
Lovely outfit and wonderful photos. Yes, my husband and I never tire of exploring other French villages here at home.
So much yet to discover right. I agree there are so many fabulous places to discover in France.
What a pretty place! Thanks for sharing it with us!
You’re welcome Pam. Great to read you enjoyed it.
I like the outfit even with flat shoes. The flat shoes are very modern. And yes these little villages are cute but I don’t visit them anymore because of the tourists.
Thanks Greetje. Edam is actually not that bad. Much nicer than Volendam and super quaint.
