Most of you will know Greetje, fellow blogger and now dear friend.
I’m so happy that I (together with many others bloggers I’m sure) was able to inspire her to start blogging, because now I’m treated to her weekly blogposts that just keep going from strength to strength.
She recently started a new Streetstyle series about stylish 40+ women in The Netherlands, mainly from Amsterdam and Haarlem. Since I have lived in both these places I wanted to share some of them with you so you can get inspired too by the style of my home country.
Enjoy!

I loved looking at all the photos. What caught my eye were the following: the geometric poncho, the woman with a broken arm who still managed to look sharp and put on a red cardigan, the blue jean jacket over burgundy pants reminding me how awesome jeans jackets are, and the long fuzzy vest in the last photo. My fave? The woman who dared to wear hot pink all over! I have a new hot pink purse for spring and I thought that was daring enough!
These are great Greetje – I bet you had fun photographing them. So many classy looking ladies who are dressing, it seems, for themselves and not for fashion’s sake. I love peaking into the streets and cafes in your shots Greetje 🙂
Well, if you click through on the three links Sylvia provided in this post, you will see a few more. I think I took pictures of about 30 or 32 different women. And yes it is so much fun, I would love to do more. But it is very cold outside now, which means I don’t want to be outside all day, and the women probably don’t feel like posing either. I will have to wait till spring.
I also loved my series “shopping in Amsterdam” (button on the top navigation of my blog). That was fun too.
My fave is #10. I love the long cardigan and the silhouette it creates. I’ve always been attracted to this style but now it is everywhere from casual to very dressy. Makes me happy 🙂
They all look great! And so different! My everyday look is like #. 3 from the bottom up. But my favorite is the lady that is sitting wearing a black and white dress with leggings and black flats! She looks so confident and glowing.
I’ve so enjoyed Greetje’s streetsyle posts. I do believe the women in the Nerherlands have some excellent style and confidence. My favorite of these is the woman by the bike in her beautiful leopard print coat and pencil skirt.
I like a lot of these, but the lead picture is most striking. I think if I were wearing that, I would choose a jacket with cleaner lines since there is already a lot going on.
Love these ladies! You can see the confidence as they express themselves through their style. 1,2 and 7 are my favorites but I love the way these women look like they feel….ready to conquer the world!
What an amazing group of fashionable ladies! Love this round up!

I love all these pictures. Makes me realize how I really need to branch out in my shoe collection. It’s amazing what a scarf or pair of funky shoes can do to a casual outfit.
Photo #17 (from the bottom up it’s #3), with the casual light-colored boots, jeans, and the long sweater is my favorite and very much something I would wear! For a long time I was convinced that because I am petite, I can’t wear a longer sweater, but I have found one that I love to wear and I think it suits me fine. I really like #7, too…especially the shoes! I always fuss about getting my jeans hemmed, but I guess I could just try wearing them turned up like that with some super cool shoes. I love the 3 ladies in photo #11 as well.
What a fantastic group of stylish women! My personal favorite is the first one. I was struck by how many of the ladies sported short, spiky pixie cuts. They look fabulous!
Ha Sylvia… this was a surprise to me haha. Yes I love doing Street Style. At them moment with this cold weather I cannot really do much. It would be a lot of black coats. I still very much like the woman with the white pixie hair and the orange shoes. But really, it is like saying you love one of your children more than the other. They all had something that attracted me.
All are stylish ladies. Pixiecut rocks though.
Second and third from the bottom and third from the top.
Wow, such variety and great style among these women!
Love #5. that’s a great look with the geometric poncho and the headress. Also #6- LOVE the shoes! And #14-simple, classic- great fit. Lastly#17 most resembles an outfit I would put together for myself.
I’ll take #1, #4 (wide horizontal striped blouse), #6 (interesting hairpiece), and last but definitely my fave is the woman in the green jacket with the walker. She is gorgeous and the jacket is a great look. Some of the others are just too informal for me to really see them as ‘fashionable’.
I don’t get anywhere near your photographing skills Denton, but I do like taking Street Style pictures. May I explane the informal dressing? I have not selected the women on being ‘fashionable’. My criteria were: have they gone the extra mile to look groomed? And is there something in their outfit that catches MY attention. As I only photograph what pleases me, not what is hot. Which is why sometimes the outfits are quite informal. I would love to photograph more women like number 7 (with the orange shoes) as that is totally my style. But it is not easy to spot them. Lots of casual outfits in The Netherlands.
Hi Greetje, I didn’t mean to come off as critical, especially of your photos, if I did I apologize. Your photos are great, 2/3 of the battle is getting our subjects to pose nicely and you did that perfectly. When shooting on the street, we all have different things that attract us about our subjects, else the world would be a boring place and we’d all be shooting the same subjects. I eagerly look forward to seeing more of your work!
Absolutely no need to apologize Denton. I did not take your comment as critical. But even if it had been critical, I would not be offended at all. I am only an amateur with very little knowledge of photography. I am still learning and taking lessons and actually I am highly amazed how well these Street Style pictures of mine have turned out, given my poor skills haha.
I think a person can be “fashionable” and still dress informally. Seems to me Audrey Hepburn with her knit sweaters, cigarette pants, and ballet flats is a classic example.
It is really hard to choose because there is so much original style and every woman wears it well. Thanks for introducing us to this blogger. I am going to start following her. I have an affinity for Amsterdam as my grandfather was Dutch and born in Amsterdam and that makes me part Dutch too! I look forward to seeing more lovely women from Amsterdam.

Fantastic style, and pictures! Those platinum and silver pixie cuts really stand out to me – I love that confident look. xox
All of the ladies look fabulous but my favourite is the third one from the bottom, she looks up to date fashion wise but comfortable as well, I love the colour combinations and the scarf makes everything stand out or ‘pop’ making it look great. Everybody needs a scarf they are wonderful little items and I am glad that they are back in fashion, but I have been wearing a scarf of some sort since the sixties.. wow did I just say that, yes I did and I am proud to be a little over 40!! 🙂
I absolutely adore the eclectic styles of these women. I grew up in Italy and have brought that sort of funky style with me through the years. Now that I’m in my 40s, I appreciate so much more the sartorial liberation that growing up in Europe gave me. And these women have inspired me to add more print to my wardrobe. Cheers!
PS
I’m now adding Greetje to my feeder!
Hello,
I enjoyed seeing these ladies – I think I would wear most of these outfits myself. My favorite is 3rd from the bottom; the lady with jeans, scarf, long sweater and light boots. The look is comfortable but put together. And I love adding scarves to add some pop.
My favorite, too! 🙂
