Sydney based fashion blogger Allison shares with us her tips on how to create comfortable and timeless outfits! Learn more about her and her fashion tips. Enjoy!
Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?
I’m 45 years young and live in Sydney Australia. I’m a Mum of two grown up boys (24 & 20) and work full time as a Senior Risk Manager for one of Australia’s big 4 banks. I started blogging in 2014 (see why here) and haven’t looked back.
I’m a globetrotting, bargain hunting, shoe loving, designer hand bag toting fashionista who always has a wine glass in hand.
As a point of reference which age group do you belong to or perhaps you are willing to share your age?
How would you describe your own personal style?
Simple, comfortable and classic. I feature both my corporate and casual style on the blog and I love a great pair of jeans. Designer shoes and handbags are my weakness and I love mixing high end and high street.
What would you consider the most important components of your style?
First and foremost I dress to be comfortable. I get so annoyed when I see women shivering to death in the middle of winter because they put style over comfort. I refuse to dress like my grandma but I have most definitely moved on from my 18 year old slave to fashion era.
A great pair of shoes or a fabulous handbag can elevate any outfit from the ordinary to the extraordinary.
Where do you live and how does that influence your style?
Sydney Australia. Aussies are known for their laid back attitude and not taking themselves too seriously and that definitely shows in my style. Our fabulous weather also dictates many of my outfit choices and in summer I’m all about wearing as little as possible.
Do you feel you have a signature style?
I live in pants most of the time. I’ve never really been a ‘girly girl’ and I just feel so much more comfortable in pants. While the odd skirt or dress does occasionally sneak onto the blog it is still the exception rather than the rule.
What inspires your outfit choices the most?
The weather. I hate being cold and my winter outfits often have me all bundled up.
Do you take things like color profiling or body type into account when you dress?
Not so much colour profiling but certainly body type. I’m a pear (and I hate my thighs!) so I dress to compensate for this as much as possible. Boot cut jeans are my friend.
Has your style changed at all after turning 40?
Not really. I’m never going to wear a midriff bearing top again but I haven’t made too many changes. Age is just a number right?
Do you believe in dressing ‘age appropriately’ and what does it mean to you?
I’m not a fan of rules, fashion or otherwise. My philosophy is that if you like it and can make it work, then go for it!
Would you say that at this stage of your life you are now more, or less interested in fashion, style and the way you look?
Definitely more interested. This is not least because I have more disposable income available to dedicate to my wardrobe. In additional I think it is harder at 40 to throw anything on and make it look good, so you need to be more considered about your style choices.
Why is the way you look important to you?
I work in a professional environment so at work I need to dress appropriately if I want to be taken seriously, but this does not mean head to toe black everyday. I’m a bit ‘out there’ personality wise and I love my style to reflect this.
Do you follow trends? And if yes, which trends excite you at the moment?
Not really but I do take inspiration from other bloggers and adapt it to work for me. I would never wear an item I didn’t like simply because it was the latest trend.
Do you have any fashion and style tips for women over 40?
Be yourself, take some chances, don’t get stuck in a rut and dress to accentuate your assets and play down your (perceived) flaws. And don’t dress like your Grandma. You’re 40 not 80!
What are your plans for your website and how do you see it develop over the coming years?
I’m currently featuring a lot more of my travel adventures on Sydney Fashion Hunter and of course the outfits I wear while I am away. Going forward my focus will be on ‘Globe Trotting In Style’.

Thanks so much for the feature. I love how it turned out and I really look forward o seeing lots more bloggers featured for inspiration.
I love her style. There are a few outfits I would love to copy. Like the first one. Or the blue with fuchsia one. But I am wiser now. As Allison says: you have to adapt it to make it work for you. From pear shape to inverted triangle. A challenge. An inspiring interview.
I very much enjoy Allison’s blog & her style! Great interview! It was fun to learn a bit more about her!
