Curate is one of the three biannual large trade shows held in NYC shortly after New York Fashion Week. Clothing designers showcase their wares and take orders from boutique owners and department store buyers.
These shows are not open to the public. To someone who appreciates high-end fashion, Curate is by far the most interesting of the wholesale shows. We learned from one of Curate’s directors, Edda Jockisch, that the show hosts a number of high-end smaller and mid-size International designers.
The clothes and jewelry on display are amazing and most are made in Europe of beautiful fabrics and to the highest standards of quality. On the closing day, Curate throws an after-show invitation-only party that is legendary in New York fashion circles.
40+Style photographer Denton Taylor was in attendance and here are some of the gorgeous 40+women he spotted!
1. Black, white and red
There are lots of jokes and riddles which start by asking ‘what is black and white and red all over?’. However, this outfit is definitely no joke, but a stylish combination of three colors.
The white boots add a very on-trend touch, while the outfit is finished off with a slick of red lipstick to match the stripes in this zipped top.
2. Pairing navy with black
Wearing navy with black can be a particularly stylish combination which isn’t often put together. This outfit is worn with statement boots, a geometric necklace and large sunglasses.
3. Black topped with color
A black base can be a great way to wear colorful pieces. Here, black is worn with a mix of shades for a slightly bohemian feel. Sneakers add both comfort and style.
4. All black
Wearing all black can be a tricky look to pull off as it can be harsh against your skin. But Judith Boyd knows how to make black look interesting! In this outfit, the wonderful texture, a pop of red lipstick for added color and the big contrast necklace makes this outfit come alive. It provides a beautiful contrast against her white hair.
You can find out more about Judith in this style interview.
5. Black and gold
A classic combination, black and gold is given even more oomph here with the addition of a statement necklace.

6. Marvelous monochrome
Wearing black with white is always a classic look and Teresa and Jean embraced this combination wholeheartedly.
These looks feature polka dots, a geometric necklace and a pop of red. There’s lots more inspiration here on how to wear black and white.

7. Bohemian brown
A beautiful bohemian look featuring earthy colors and a matching headpiece.
8. Black with pink
Pairing black with pink can stop this pastel shade from looking too feminine or girlie if you want to go for a look which is more sophisticated.
Here, black is teamed with a pink necklace and fuschia, fingerless gloves.
9. Beautiful in blue
Teresa wore an oversized blue tunic with a stylish circular necklace and red glasses.
10. Stylish in stripes
Vertical stripes provide a colorful, lean look. This look is finished off with a stylish headpiece.
11. Polka dots
This look combines neutrals to great effect. Oversize polka dots add a touch of playfulness.
12. In the round
This look has a pretty vintage feel, with the fluted-sleeve dress worn along with round glasses and a circular hat.
13. Feathers and lace
Sometimes the old adage less is more should clearly be ignored. This outfit features not just lace, but also lace, and is worn with red glasses.
14. Two complimentary looks
These two looks show that black can look equally beautiful worn with color or with another neutral.
15. Top to toe style
This look is put together from top to toe, with the pinks, reds and blacks matched from hair through to the overcoat.
16. Wearing pants to an event
Pants can be just as stylish and appropriate for events as dresses or skirts.
Here, at the left Wendy Packer lifts what could have been a casual pair of capri jeans through the addition of gold shoes and a matching wrap top and belt.
Meanwhile, the look on the right features a stylish animal print jacket.
17. Metallics worn with browns
This look works so well as even the chain necklaces match the beautiful hair color.
Which of these looks is your favorite? What would you wear to go to the curate show?
