Quite a few readers from abroad who have travel plans to Singapore arrive on my blog through my article on how to dress in Singapore. Logically, their next question is WHERE to shop in Singapore. High time therefore for a summary of some of the best places to shop here.
Luxury
Singapore is a shopping paradise, especially if you have a lot of cash. I know of no other place in the world where there is a higher concentration of luxury brands as in Singapore. We have several stores of Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton etc. You can find many of them at Orchard Road, which also houses a lot of other mainstream brands.
The best shopping malls for luxury labels include Ion, Paragon and Ngee Ann city which are all within walking distance from one another. Another good place is the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands where a lot of luxury brands opened up shop recently. Of course many luxury brands are also present at Changi Airport although most shops there are a lot smaller and concentrate on accessories.
High street labels
You will find many of the global high street labels in Singapore as well. H&M, Zara, Topshop, Banana Republic are just a few. You will find these labels in many of the shopping malls here (and believe me there are MANY) but my favorite places are again the malls concentrated on Orchard Road starting at the crossing with Scotts Road. Ion is one of the newest malls, while Ngee Ann City has the biggest department store. Opposite Ngee Ann City is Paragon who has a good range of mid to high labels as well. Tang’s (opposite Ion) has a great range of labels in their women’s department from international to local designers.
I would start your shopping at Ion as as it has a good selection high end brands, mid level brands and main high street brands. One of my favorite local brands here is In Good Company. Definitely pay this store a visit. You can also find Cos here and CK Calvin Klein which are other favorites if mine.
From Ion you can then move on to Wisma Atria who has a lot more affordable labels as well as popular high street labels like Gap. From Wisma Atria you can walk into Ngee Ann City.
Far East Plaza is close to this area too (on Scotts road) and has a lot of cheaper clothing, but no known labels. Good for bargain shopping.
Multi-label boutiques
These are not as common in Singapore as elsewhere in the world and you need to look for them. Some good ones include Mythology, which I wrote about before. It’s located in a very characteristic street in Singapore that you will love to visit: Club Street. I love Club21b in The Forum Shopping Mall for the great designer clothes from various hip designers, but prices are very high and many 40+ women may find the collection too young.
Small independent boutiques
One of the most fun and prettiest places to shop in Singapore is Haji lane. Set in the Arab quarter of Singapore, it has lots of little shops with pretty clothes in all price ranges. Apart from clothes you will also find shoes, hand bags, items for your house and even bicycles! One street further is Arab street where you can find the most exquisite fabrics and carpets.
Close to The Botanical Gardens, there is also Cluny Court (501 Bukit Timah Rd), which has a lovely selection of small boutiques.
One of the current hip areas in town is Tiong Bahru where there are a few great boutiques like Nana & Bird and Flea and Trees.
Tourist shops and gifts
If you like to shop for gifts or little knick-knacks there is no better place than China Town. It’s always full of life and there are many shops where they sell everything from clothing to jewelry to food to decorations for the home. Be sure to bargain hard!
Other great areas to explore for tourists and to find special gifts include Little India (where you can find the Mustafa Center which is open 24/7), Kampong Glam and Holland Village.
For some unique gifts, you may also like to check the schedule of fairs where many women sell original goods from around the region.
Electronics
Many shoppers like to buy a new camera or gadgets here and there are several malls dedicated to that as well. Lucky Plaza is right in the center and close to ION and Paragon which I recommended above. It has lots of electronics at affordable prizes but you will need to bargain hard. It’s worth mentioning also that this mall does not have a great reputation for reliability, so you need to shop with care.
Another electronics mall is Sim Lim square which has similar issues as Lucky Plaza and can be very busy. A nicer electronics mall is Funan Square.
My favorite shop for electronics in Singapore is PaRiSilK in Holland Village. There is no haggling as they have fixed prices only, but they will always give you the best prize. The service is good and reliable.
Of course there are many many more great places to shop in Singapore as new shops and malls are added all the time.
Wishing you a great time in Singapore and happy shopping!

Thank you so much Sylvia! This will come in so handy while we are in Singapore (November 3-6, cannot wait.) I am a big fan of boutiques, so looking forward to Haji Lane…
Enjoy Kerry. I’m sure you will love Singapore!
I think it is very unwise for me ever to come to Singapore. LOL
You still have to come regardless. Both Anja and me can keep you within (spending) boundaries haha!
