Is it ok to like a garment better from the back? Not really. It’s all about your face right?
That is where the focus should be and what you want to highlight. But well, every now and then you just have a garment that you just like better from the back, like this dress I bought together with Greetje in Amsterdam.
Garments need to look good from both the front AND the back of course. Something you really should not overlook when you are doing your shopping. With this dress you can bring the back more into the front by featuring the purple of the inbuilt elastic, in the front as well. I used my versatile tube necklace and also had a big bag in a similar color.
I was together with Anja who is in town for a few weeks. She was her own colorful, floral self while I stayed true to my preferred style which focuses more on color blocking and graphics. We opted for the Gardens by the Bay location again which can be quite photogenic with views of Marina Bay Sands in the background and its large super trees.
It was a super hot day and even though I may look comfortably cool on this pictures, I was sweltering. The difference with my recent arctic experience could not be bigger.
Here is the Singapore flyer in the background. One of tourist attractions of Singapore where you can get a good view of the whole city. Also note how you see every curve and bubble of my body in this dress? Something you really need to take into account when wearing any kind of jersey or knits.
Of course I will show you Anja’s pictures as well. But you’ll just have to be a bit more patient and wait for them. I’ve already photographed her in a variety of outfits and it will be a feast of floral bliss. Be sure to subscribe through RSS, Bloglovin or newsletter so you will not miss it!

What a fabulous dress on you. The colours are very unusual together but fantastic. Your accessories are perfect. The backdrop is very cool too – lovely greenery and interesting architecture. I understand about sweltering even though wearing a light dress like that – it’s not fun 🙂
A friend said something to me that I thought I should share under your “Looking good etc” heading, Sylvia. She said: “Make sure you don’t look so great from the back that people are disappointed when they see you from the front.”
It was in the context of women dressing ‘young’ because they have a good figure, but their face not fitting the style of their clothes!
This does not apply to you Sylvia! Once again an interesting piece of clothing, well styled.
Yes very true!
Lorraine I think that’s a great saying. And funny too! Well worth remembering!
Interesting topic! At the moment I am concentrating on what I look like from the front. My husband can worry about what I look like from behind as he is in the dog house and now walking ten paces behind me!
Haha Lorraine. Very funny. Don’t keep him there too long though….
Fabulous–Love the purple belt! Where did you get it?
It’s an elastic belt and built into the dress…
Lovely outfit!
Well… what can I say? Looks lovely on you. And you have styled it so well. I am glad I talked you into this haha.
And yes, when the wind blows you can see every curve and bubble. Fortunately you have very nice curves and bubbles. For those who don’t, there is shapewear, which will not be easy in hot Singapore. It helps me a lot in cold Holland.
That necklace of yours is getting more interesting by the day. I will check that artist out.
And the shoes and bag are great with the dress.
Forgot to give you an answer about the back….. hardly anything looks good on my at the back.
Very nice! The bag, necklace, and shoes look like they were all made to go with that dress! I’ve never really thought about if my outfits look better coming or going. I’ll have to ponder that one.
It really an interesting dress and I don’t think it looks bad from the front. Maybe wearing a longer necklace or a scarf to draw the eye down in the front would make you like it better. You are so delicate and petite I think it needs a vertical element to balance the horizontal color blocking – just my two cents.

Right now I am having my office-morning-coffee and you should see my mug! It is showing the Singapore Flyer! A colleague brought it from a business trip. It wasn’t built yet when I visited Singapore.
That dress is fabulous (not only from the back!) and I am sure its loose cut is perfect for the heat and humidity.
Great styling with purple and I love both the necklace and sandals!

A lot has changed in Singapore recently. Hopefully you have the chance to come back some time…

Thanks! Those sandals were kind of a risky buy for, but have turned out a great success. I’ve bought more yellow for spring and I wear them all the time!
The dress looks stunning on you from the back and from the front!
What a majestic place to take your photos!
Love the color blocking on the dress, the belt, your necklace and that large bag.
Yes I’m a color blocking kinda girl. Anja and I are always a nice contrast. Me in my straight color and she in her flowers and prints.
Beautiful images, Sylvia! The background is just gorgeous!
I’m loving this dress on you! The color and the fit is very flattering. Great bag & shoes, too!
Thank you Jeannie. It’s an interesting new park in Singapore: Gardens by the Bay.
