In Austin (more details later this week) I had the great pleasure of meeting Stephanie Clayton; a very stylish 40+er whom you may already know from her site Odyssey Home. I also featured her before on this site in my style lesson series: how to look great with a minimal wardrobe.
Stephanie was looking fab as usual in one of her signature Rick Owens attires, featuring a short dress and shorts. The shoes are amazing too.
I took the opportunity to photograph her and get her to smile, something she normally does not do in her own photographs.
That was actually not that hard, because she is the funniest and sweetest person! She was also willing to pose and be goofy, which is something I love about style bloggers. They are no longer shy about posing!
We had lunch at a lovely cafe which was suggested by Stephanie and we talked about Austin, Stephanie’s art, my trip to New Orleans and why we blog. Time flew by and I’m sure we could have talked for much longer, as I loved hearing about her experience in Austin (a city she only recently moved to) and her experience of being a blogger. I missed a great opportunity of asking her more about her style and filming her responses for a short video. I really should make a checklist of things to do whenever I meet a fellow blogger so I don’t miss these chances! I’m sure you would have all loved to hear her talk and hear her sweet voice.
I was wearing one of my favorite short dresses for this occasion accessorized by a hat to protect me from the sun and hide my unruly hair. This hat has been been a staple for me throughout the holiday (you will see more of it later) as well as the Alldressedup necklace. I almost wore this outfit with my new funky shoes, but decided for my more practical (and minimal) Zara sandals instead.
Another staple has been my white jacket during this holiday. Although it is very hot in places like Texas and New Mexico, indoors the airconditioning is extremely cold, so I never go anywhere without at least a cardigan or jacket.
We had a fabulous afternoon and I’m so happy we met up. It’s so nice to get to know fellow bloggers that you have been following for a while on a personal level. It’s one of the great things about blogging too, that you meet and can connect with people from all over the world.
Be sure to check out Stephanie’s website Odyssey Home, as well as her personal site and art journal.

You both look fantastic! I like women who show confidence and are willing to let their personality shine through. To me, that is what style is all about.
Dear Sylvia, How wonderful that you were able to connect with Stephanie; her blog is always an inspiration. Seeing the two of you having a marvelous time makes me even more disappointed (if that’s even possible) that I was in Minnesota and missed you.
Your entire ensemble is perfect for the occasion and your hat is flawless, as usual. Thank you so much for linking up with Hat Attack.
Sylvia, I have thoroughly enjoyed follwoing you around the U.S. via facebook. You chose some great travel outfits but this one is right on the money. So versatile for hot weather and cool air conditioned buildings. Love how effortlessly you pulled it together with your fun hat and gorgeous necklace.
Sylvia this one of my favorite looks on you. I love how you paired the short dress over the pants!
Happy to have rediscovered your blog at Judith’s Hat Attack!
Did you guys meet at the Blue Dahlia? I’ve only been there once, but these photos look familiar!
I only recently began following Over 40 style blogs. I’m going from full time stay-at-home-mom to part time educator so I need to overhaul my wardrobe. I love this blog! Now I have Odyssey to check out. I feel like a kid in a candy store!
Well spotted Milaka. We sure did! Great you like this blog. Welcome!

HOW FREAKIN’ AMAZING IS THIS!!! One, Steph has such amazing style- and you both rock mod/min so well! How exciting that you are in the states (let me know when/if you’re anywhere near Seattle, Washington, would ya?) AND are meeting fellow +40 bloggers, and awesome ones to boot! Wonderful pics, wonderful people- thank YOU for sharing!
Thanks Bella. My next stop now will be San Francisco for one day (Thursday) if you happen to be there… Unfortunately, will not go to Seattle (did that 2 years ago).
Fab blog post! Sylvia, I am pretty sure I was introduced to Stephanie and her awesome style through 40+ Style and she has become one of my favourite bloggers. I find her style inspiring and I love the way that her style really transcends fashion and trends yet always looks so modern and edgy. How wonderful you got to meet up. She looks like loads of fun.
I love her blog! She is the sweetest person. How great you got to meet her!
You both look so elegant and relax and is so nice to see smiling faces attached to great styled outfits!
She is the cutest! 😀
Both you and Stephanie look fantastic – love all the neutrals for summer. Thanks so much for linking up to Visible Monday : >
It was a real pleasure, Sylvia, and you are so kind! You write such lovely things, and I am honored to be featured (again!) here on your blog.
And I really liked your casual, chic ensemble plus hat. It’s nice to see all these photos from our afternoon at the bistro.
xoxo S.
Both of you are beautifully stylish!

Lovely to read this. You can feel the excitement of a new friendship in the air. I did not recognize Stephanie at first glance. Her hairstyle is different. Glad you were able to photograph her with smiles and goofing.
I notice a new fuchsia bag on your shoulder. Am I right?
