I hope you are having a fantastic summer so far. But blink and, before you know it, it will be fall. That’s why I’m working with Nordstrom to put together this capsule for you with pieces from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
It’s so important when putting together your closet to choose pieces which give you as much versatility as possible; those items that will work hard through different seasons.
Putting together a capsule wardrobe can ensure that choosing outfits each day is easy. Not only that, but choose the right pieces and you can wear many of them now, but you can also make sure you have your fall closet ready.
I’ve partnered with Nordstrom this summer, which is one of the best places to shop for fall, to bring you a capsule wardrobe which will give you plenty of stylish looks to transition from summer through to fall and beyond.

I’m concentrating on high-quality pieces that won’t just last you one season, but which you can wear for years to come. Plus, they are even more affordable as the Nordstrom anniversary sale is starting, so I’ve included lots of pieces which have a good discount.

What you will need…
An animal print blouse
Animal print is one of those style staples that will never, ever not be on trend.
But, it is particularly on trend for fall 2019, with many designers having already showcased leopard and other animal prints on their winter and fall catwalks.
A stylish, neutral top
While it’s easy to be drawn to more elaborate tops, every closet needs a base of stylish, plain-colored or neutral tops.
That way, the rest of your closet will have so much more versatility as you can easily pop your plain tops under other layers, or pair with your printed tops and skirts.
But, just because you opt for a block color, that doesn’t mean that you have to choose a top which is bland or boring. Instead, look for tops which have drape or twist detailing, for example. That way, you will still add extra interest.
A versatile twist-front blouse
I love this blouse. Not only does it add a pop of bright, vibrant color to any outfit, but it is also very flattering.
A v-neck is flattering for most body shapes as it elongates the figure. Plus, the twist front will disguise a little bit of a tummy if you aren’t happy with that area.
You could wear now with a pair of white jeans or pants for summer, and then switch to a darker denim for fall.

A deep red shirt
I also love the versatility of this darker red shirt, which would go with so many other colors and pieces.
You could wear simply with a pair of jeans for a casual day, or tuck into a pencil skirt for a more formal take on the look.
Nordstrom two-pocket silk shirt
A stylish sweater
Depending on where you live in the world, and whether you are heading off on vacation this summer, you may be currently enjoying some warm sunshine.
But, you may want a warmer top for cool evenings, and you will certainly need some knitwear as summer gives way to fall.
The autumnal shade of this top is beautiful. Plus, it’s a very transitional piece. You could wear with your summer skirts to give them some longevity as the weather cools down.
A V-neck sweater
Some more animal print for you! You usually see leopard print, but this is a more unusual take on the trend. Tiger print anyone?
It has a very flattering v-neck and I think would look great with a pair of jeans and sneakers or booties for fall.
ASTR the Label tiger pullover sweater
An asymmetrical dress
You know that I love asymmetry. So, the hemline on this dress is particularly attractive to me.
It also has a flattering V-neck. Plus, it can be tricky to find stylish dresses with sleeves, so this is a great option.
This could be worn in so many different ways. You could simply wear with a pair of black sandals if you are looking for a lovely vacation dress.
Then, for fall, you can add a stylish leather jacket and some boots. If you need even more warmth, you could even make this work for winter by adding a turtleneck sweater underneath.
A moto jacket in a beautiful color
Do you already have a moto jacket in your closet? Many of you may have a piece in classic black, but I love the more subtle shade of this jacket.
It could work with an all-white summer look, but would look equally lovely with autumnal shades such as burgundy.
A plaid blazer
As well as animal print, one of the big pattern trends for fall 2019 is set to be plaid and heritage checks.
This blazer not only ticks the checks trend, but it also has a slightly vintage, almost equestrian feel.
I think this would look beautiful worn with a plain shirt and a pair of jeans. It would instantly elevate what could otherwise be a fairly simple look.
A beautiful red coat
This coat is simply stunning. What a beautiful color! A longer coat style is very much on trend for this fall and winter.
Plus, this has a very flattering, elongating effect because of the v-neck and the longer length.
Avec Les Filles coat
A pair of check pants
As I talked about with the blazer above, checks and plaid are very much still on trend.
I like the kick-flare shape of this pair of window-pane check pants.
I can see that they would work with sandals or sneakers for summer, but also with booties for fall.
Leith high waist kick flare pants
A paler pair of wide-leg pants
Many of the pants styles on the winter/fall 2019 catwalks had a more relaxed feel. A kind of slouchy, haven’t tried too hard kind of a feel.
You could team with a tank top and sandals now and then swap for a long-sleeved blouse or sweater (or both) later in the year.
A pair of classic, darker denim jeans
The Nordstrom sale is often a good opportunity to invest in some classic pieces at a lower price than usual.
While it seems that the trend was for wall-to-wall (or leg-to-leg) skinnies for a number of seasons, flares and wider-leg styles are more on trend now.
An animal print skirt
It’s my third animal print piece on the list, but it is a classic and I can see that this could be worn for spitering, summer and fall.
You could easily wear with sandals for summer and with a sweater for fall. It could also be a party piece if you teamed with a silk top and some statement jewelry.
AFRM print midi skirt (fabulous alternative)
A pair of low-heeled booties
Every transitional closet needs a pair of ankle booties. You can wear these with pants, skirts and dresses instead of your summer shoes.
This pair have an on-trend snakeprint and a low, block heel so they are comfortable to walk in.
Open-toe booties
I think open-toe booties are a great addition to your closet (so long as you don’t mind making sure your pedicure is done!).
You can wear with pretty much every outfit up until the weather turns too cold to have your toes on display.
Kelsi Dagger Brooklyn peep toe bootie
A pair of statement boots
Just as animal print is a big trend for clothes this fall, the texture which is most on trend is reptile.
This boots manage to be on-trend yet a classic you can wear for years to come. They’re also a fabulous statement piece. You’re sure to get lots of comments and compliments.
Comfortable but stylish sneakers
Sneakers have become increasingly trendy in recent years, which is great news if you want to make sure you are both stylish and comfortable.
I like the unusual shade of these ones, which I think would go beautifully with so many autumnal colors.
A classic hobo bag
Do you love a tote bag or a hobo? I love both the color and the style of this hobo bag which would look equally good with a summer dress or with jeans and a sweater.
A pair of hoop earrings
For a pair of earrings that will go with everything, you can’t go wrong with a pair of hoops.

I love Nordstrom…so many beautiful things! And I love the suggestions in capsule, especially the window pane-check pants paired with the red twist front blouse. Gorgeous!…thanks so much for your help and recommendations!
Love this capsule! Very practical. I would like to know however, the brand of the graphic t-shirt shown in a previous newsletter. It was white, short sleeved and had a woman’s face on it, I believe. I love Freda Kahlo t-shirts but am not sure of the quality. The one Sylvia was wearing with a long orange skirt I believe was terrific. Thanks.
I’m not quite certain which t-shirt you’re referring to but I featured a t-shirt with a woman picture before. However, that’s an old t-shirt purchased at Zara a while ago. You may enjoy this t-shirt 🙂 https://rstyle.me/+fPatnYG5bmAnmCN9EW34hQ
