The most flattering tops you’ll wear this summer

The most flattering tops you'll wear this summer |

Invented by Diane von Furstenberg in the 70s, the wrap dress is one of the most hard-working items in your closet.

But the wrap top is equally versatile. In fact, it could just be the most flattering top you’ll wear all summer.

If you don’t already have one in your wardrobe. Or, even if you do, there’s never been a better time to invest in one.

In the past few seasons, tops have been focused on the shoulders and arms, with Bardot styles, cold shoulder tops and bell sleeves. But that focus has shifted to the chest and the waist, with the wrap top!

The great thing about wrap tops is they are incredibly versatile and work for all body shapes. There are tight-fitting ones which tie at the waist, loose fitting tops which tie at the waist and faux wrap tops which create a draped effect.

So, you’re bound to find one which flatters you!

Diane von Furstenberg is still a great first port of call for wrap tops if you feel like a bit of a splurge, but there are also plenty of other options on the high street at the moment.

Here are some of my favorites!

1. Majorca stripe wrap top from Bishop + Young

I spent many a happy childhood holiday in Majorca, so how could I not love a top with the same name?

I love the versatility of this one and the combination of florals and stripes. You could easily wear with jeans like the model here, or with wide-legged pants.

Plus, it could really help to balance out your figure if you’re pear-shaped by adding extra volume to your top half, cinching in your waist to show it off if you’re an hourglass or adding shape if you’re a rectangle to give the illusion of curves.

2. Halogen wrap top

I love the Seventies vibe of this wrap top. You could play that up and wear with flared jeans and wedges, or it’s smart enough to wear with black pants for work, or casual enough to wear with white pants for a day at the beach. So many options!

3. Sash tie top

A classic color and bang on trend for this season. This shape is definitely THE wrap blouse shape of the summer, with the bow waist and the slightly puffed sleeves.

I’d wear this one with higher-waisted pants as I’d rather not bare my midriff! There are more ideas here on how to wear red.

4. Trouvé wrap top

A much more subtle take on the wrap top, this style should see you through season after season, long after the more on-trend wrap tops are no longer, well, on trend.

Plus, I absolutely love the cobalt blue of this one. It would look beautiful with white for summer.

5. Jason Wu white blouse

I love the simplicity of this Jason Wu blouse. Plus, it’s in the Nordstrom sale at the moment with 60% off, down to $130.00 from $325.00, with lots of sizes still in stock!

It’s the sort of piece I can see me having in my wardrobe for many years to come! I’d style with wide-legged crop pants and block-heeled sandals.

There are a number of reasons why I cannot wear any of these but I won’t bore you with that. But the Majorca stripe wrap top is my favourite.

I like the last but 3/4 sleeves are real style pleasers
