Will you be investing in a new winter coat this year? New Yorkers are renowned for the stylish way they deal with snaps of cold weather. Here, we bring you inspiration from 40+ street style photographer Denton Taylor.
1. Embroidery details
Plenty of the big-name designers, including Oscar de la Renta, used embroidery on their coats for fall and for the upcoming spring 2019 collections. You can also see Oscar de la Renta’s beautiful embroidery on blouses in the best color trends for fall 2018.
Here, what could have been a plain and simple black coat is given plenty of added interest through the detailing on the arms.1
An all-neutral palette doesn’t have to look dull. Gray is always a beautiful color for winter and fall, and can look much softer and more flattering than black. Gray is worn from top-to-toe, including in the pair of over-the-knee boots.
There’s more inspiration here in this piece on how to wear gray.
3. Cozy parka
A parka coat can be the ultimate tool in keeping warm when the mercury levels really start to dip. This neutral gray is given added interest with the pop of orange/red of the top. And, of course, a pair of ultra-cool sunglasses.
There are more parkas, and other coat choices, here in this article on how to choose a winter coat.
This look ticks several style boxes in one. Checks and plaid of all types are a huge fall/winter 2018 trend, as is layering.
While some of the layered coats on the runways were simply too bulky to be wearable, this look takes the trend of wearing two coats at once, but keeps it streamlined. Pink shoes also proved to be something of a micro-trend for this season.
5. Beautiful flowers
The great thing about a coat is that you can throw it on over anything and, if you choose the right coat, you can look super stylish. This coat is definitely one of those hero pieces, with statement flowers on one side.
6. All black
New Yorkers are renowned for their love of black. Here, a black coat is given added interest through the use of big gold buttons, even bigger sunglasses and a pop of red lipstick.
