Today I present you with an article by guest writer Heidi.

When you have a wardrobe built around essential pieces of clothing, creating outfits becomes a matter of playing mix and match.

This week of outfits is built on a few key pieces of what I like to call the Core Wardrobe:

  • a blazer
  • pencil skirt
  • dark wash denim
  • khaki trousers
  • T-shirt and
  • white button-front shirt

The blazer

A blazer adds instant polish to almost any garment combination, taking looks from casual to dressy, and it’s a must-have for serious career wear.

The shirt

Like its male counterpart, a button-front shirt is also a staple for office looks and other dressed-up occasions.

The skirt

You don’t need many skirts in your closet if one of them is a pencil skirt. Like the blazer, it’s a work wear workhorse.

The trousers

Dark wash denim and khaki (or neutral) trousers are two essential pairs of pants to own; they can be matched with almost any color and pattern top for easy, stylish looks from casual to more dressed up.

The t-shirt

And doesn’t every woman own at least one solid color T-shirt? Wear it under a jacket to the office or with shorts to the beach–so versatile!

The shoes an accessories

Add one pair of dressy shoes, one pair of casual flats and a few accessories to this list of essentials and you have outfits for every level, whether it’s weekend casual errand running, a weekend chic brunch date with the girls, Casual Friday in the office or an important client meeting.

6 garments, 2 pair of shoes and 3 accessories for 1 week of style!

Adapt any of these outfit ideas to your own personal style by choosing similar items that match your taste. The white button-down shirt might be more loosely structured or have ruffles if you are a boho gal. The pencil skirt might be in a solid color if a bright pattern isn’t your cup of tea.

And of course the color palette can be spun in any number of ways, from all brights, to all darks and neutrals.
