stylish 40+ women

Have you had a chance to look at the forum this week? Lots of stylish looks being uploaded there, from which you see a sample above.

Some of our members are also struggling with lack of confidence or frustration with gaining weight. Something many 40+ women go through. So Greetje started a new topic on why we insist on talking ourselves down and how we can stop this process. Do you suffer from poor self esteem or poor body image? Or did you used to, but overcame it? You may like to take a look and either get support or offer your solutions to the issue!

Fashion shows in Milan and Paris

The best was definitely saved for last! I especially loved Valentino, Issey Miyake, Akris and Givenchy, who all had great outfits for women over 40. Check out all the best looks on my Spring / summer 2013 trends board.

 Around the web

The Daily Mail reports on how women over 50 have become very knowledgeable about their style and what looks best on them. Women over 50 have become very savvy shoppers!

Another article in the daily mail gives 7 rules for grown-up style. Do you agree with these rules?

Problogger conference

This is not fashion related but some of my fellow blogger readers may find this interesting.

I’m off to Melbourne, Australia next week.

As you may know, I take being a blogger very seriously. I hope to grow 40+ Style into an even larger blog, magazine and community that aims to help, educuate, inspire and entertain women over 40 in their quest to look and feel the best they can be. In order for me to do this and justify the large amount of time I spend on creating the site, it needs to generate income. I do this through advertising, affiliate links and sponsored posts occassionally (which are always fully disclosed!) and I’m considering adding an e-book.

There is still a lot to be learned on how to do this effectively. That is why I decided to invest in attending the Problogger conference this year. Although there are always a lot of events organised in the US (which some day I hope to attend as well) there is nothing being organised here in Singapore and Australia was the closest high quality conference I could find. It is organised by one of the most respected and successful bloggers on the Internet (Darren Rowse from Problogger) and it is a great opportunity for me to network with other bloggers and learn how I can make 40+Style even better and more profitable. I’m actually really looking forward to meeting some of my favorite bloggers!

Want to virtually attend the conference too?

Although the conference was sold out very quickly, there is still an opportunity for you to be virtually there. All the presentations will be taped and you will be able to access more than 21 hours of teaching. You’ll get audio recordings of all 21 sessions of training at the event and hear from bloggers like Darren Rowse, Chris Guillebeau, Sarah Wilson and many more on how to build profitable blogs.

You will also be able to view all slides from each of the sessions at the event – yours to keep as PDFs – and participate in an exclusive live webinar with Darren Rowse on October 17th for a post-event Q&A session – this will also be recorded for you to listen to again later.

So if you’re keen to be virtually there with me and learn what I learn then get your virtual ticket today (affiliate link). Be quick as the price is still low now and will go up soon!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Practical Paralegalism

I bought the book shortly after I started blogging and found it very helpful. It’s very cool that you’re attending a live conference!

I know! I’m very excited to meet some of the people that I have been following for a long time. An extra bonus is that I’m going to see my aunt and uncle in Melbourne and enjoy the city!

First of all thank you for featuring my picture…. I so wish I had the fund available for the virtual conference but alas going to get new glasses and contacts has to take precedent right now.

You are welcome Tracey!

Re: the rules of style of grown up women, at 47 years young, here are my comments
RULE 1: INVEST IN LUSCIOUS LINGERIE Absolutely, feeling good inside your clothes helps feels feel good on what’s outside and remember that saying about wearing nice underwear should something happen to you!
RULE 3: FLASH YOUR CALVES If you’ve got nice claves, flaunt it!
RULE 5: TRICK THE EYE Oh yes, at our age, gravity can be a real bitch!
RULE 6: KEEP IT SLINKY Only if you have no lumps and bumps or have shapewear
RULE 7: LESS IS MORE This is SO true, keep it simple not busy

Thanks for the feedback Sarah. Here are my thoughts:

1. I’m not really into lingerie I must admit. For me the most important thing is that my underwear supports the garments I wear and is invisible. 2. Flattering the waist is often important, but not always. I love surrendering my waist on certain occasions. 3. yes 4. Not always, I also think tailored blazers can be very nice. I don’t think the jackets should be too short 5. Yes, you can also do that with statement and contemporary jewellery which is why I like that so much 6. It’s all about focussing on the positives and hiding the parts you are less happy with; I’m all for that 7. True, but interesting details are nice too. Don’t keep it TOO simple.

It is so nice to see you featuring us Forum-uploaders. Thank you.
As for the 7 rules… Hmmm don’t know. Some of them are true, others I don’t agree with. But what puzzled me with all the examples of Emma, is that I thought she looked a bit like a model in one of those German older women post order books. Very safe and a bit old (fashioned). Whereas she does follow the trends in her outfits. Cannot put my finger on it what it is. Her hairstyle?
I will definitely have a look at your pinboard later on. Have to do weekend shopping first.

Oh and have fun in Australia. The better you get, the more fun we have.

Thanks Greetje. I think so too!

Yes I tend to agree Greetje. The haircut looks a bit too ‘done’. Would be nicer if it looked less styled. And the clothes are generally very boring.

What a pleasant surprise 🙂
Tnx for having us up there!!

You are welcome!

Sylvia have fun in Australia. Are you going to give us up-dates like you did in your last summerholiday.

Articles will continue as usual, but I will certainly take pictures and give you a report on my visit. I will post pictures throughout on Facebook and Instagram if I can find wifi connections…..

The pro blogger conference sounds exciting! And I read the 7 riles for grown up style and although I think they’re good tips in there the only one I would call a rule is the one Bout buying good quality correctly fitted bras. The rest are somewhat arbitrary, but the author does look better now than before!
