I identified tomboy chic as one of the fall / winter 2013 trends (subscribe to get a free trends report!). In fact wearing something ‘from the men’ is very trendy this season. So much so that I made it part of the upcoming dressing challenge where I challenge you all to add a male touch to your outfits. Here are some ideas on how to wear the tomboy chic trend.
Pants and shirt
One of the easiest ways to wear this trend is just to wear some dressy pants with with a classic shirt. The above left look from Akris is effortlessly chic and very easy to create. Just get a nice blouse and combine with a well-fitted pair of dressy pants. This outfit will look great with oxfords and brogues and a statement or textured belt. For extra drama, you could even wear a tie or add a hat. Combine with a boxy or fitted blazer when you get cold. This look will look great with both full length and 7/8 pants so long as you make sure that the latter are tapered.
Another easy and elegant way to wear this trend is to wear a suit. Rather than wearing your suit with dressy pumps or ladylike shoes, opt for flat booties or brogues instead as pictured on the photo in the middle. Combine with a tie if you wish or a statement shirt. Of course you can mix the color of the pants and the jacket and can be as adventurous as you like with prints. Opt for pinstripes, herringbone or another ‘male’ fabric to up the tomboy chic vibe or add a hat.
There are a lot of really nice wide jumpers in shops right now. I spotted many at Zara in all kinds of combinations in black and white, but also navy blue and ecru. I’m very tempted to buy them, but for me (living in a hot climate) they just don’t make any sense. These jumpers look great with skirts combined with booties but also on long wide pants and skinnies. I would wear the later with taller booties than the ones pictured at above left for a comfortable hip look.
These are just a few ways to wear the tomboy chic look, but there are many more options. I very much look forward to seeing your creativity in the dressing challenge results!
