Sheer was everywhere on the runways of New York, London, Milan and Paris. So why wait and let’s just wear it straight away. And as I will show you today there is no reason women over 40 cannot indulge in this trend.

black skirt and mustard blouse

This skirt has been featured on the site before, but never really in its full glory. It’s more than 10 years old and was bought in Australia. I believe it’s perfect for the new sheer trend. It’s not so clear to see from the pictures taken outside, but the skirt is actually pretty sheer (see the below picture). There is a diagonal skirt underneath, which of course fits right in with my passion for asymmetry. The miniskirt only just covers my bum!

I think this outfit shows that even women over 40 can indulge in the sheer trend in a classy way. There are plenty of options to do this in a sophisticated way for tops too, but as you can see even skirts can participate. The skirt has a very flattering knee length, which gives it a lady-like look, while at the same time the sheer element and diagonal skirt underneath provides a bit of sexyness and extra interest.

Although I tried the skirt with my open toe pumps, I thought that look was too formal. These shoes make the whole look a bit more modern in my opinion. Also helped by my contemporary watch. The skirt is also super comfortable as it’s knitted and doesn’t fit tightly. It’s the perfect skirt for layering with dresses as well as I showed you earlier in my article how to wear short dress after 40.

Alldressedup mustard silk top

Regular readers will recognise both pieces as I wore the top before here and the skirt here. This is also a perfect example that you don’t always have to run for the shops to incorporate the latest trend into you outfits and that many times you can just shop your wardrobe!
