Post If you are not sure ..... act as if you are

Some women can pull off any outfit. I followed one of Sylvia's links to the blog Not Dressed As Lamb. Well...... This Catherine is a dare devil and gets away with everything. I think because she is a flamboyant person. To me she brings fun to the world. She probably needs her self-confident caracter as her outfits are not standard which draws comments.
I have suffered by negative comments. Unlike what you might think, I am sometimes insecure about myself and my outfits. Fortunately it hasn't stopped my at all. LOL.
Therefore I put to you this statement:
when in doubt, just put on a confident face. As if you are saying that what you are wearing is the highlight of the season. Act it out.
As I think it is more our own doubt that brings on negative comments than the outfit itself. Like in the animal world: when one animal shows signs of weakness, another will immediately profit from that and lash out. It is instinct.
And the ones giving negative comments are our own sort: women. Perhaps also instinct? From way back?

(Don't get me wrong. I invite everybody at other enterings on this forum, to react on my clothes and don't think you are mean or anything. I trust you and I do want honest advice, no flattery. But that is comment I ask for, not unsolicited comment.)

Some great thoughts Greetje!

I think Catherine has great style. She is an absolute master with colours! There are a few more sites with women that are far more outrageous than her. They are aware of that themselves but love the way they dress so don't really care what everyone else thinks.

I also mainly dress to please myself, because if i don't feel good in an outfit, it doesn't really matter if others feel it's great, it still does not work.

The opposite is true also. If I wear an outfit I feel fabulous in, it doesn't really bother me if others say it's not nice. In the end we all have different tastes. Although, of course, I would rather receive compliments!

But you are right. If you chose to wear something, you will have to wear it with confidence. Without that it will never look great. I think that this is the exact same tip that Tim Gunn also mentions in his book; if you don't feel confident, fake it!

An article on confidence has been in the planning for quite some time now, but I just don't seem to get around writing it. I think it's one of the most crucial elements of great style!

Yes I like this post a lot too. All you ladies who post photos of yourselves with confidence are inspiring others who are perhaps a bit on the shy side to give it a go and post photos too.

Alishamiland and Aileen, I missed your entries to this old article.
I have to admit that I sometimes lack confidence when I go out in an outrageous hat for instance. Still, I stand by my statement. And posting photos of outfits has a lot to do with an extroverted caracter haha.

Greetje, I enjoy reading your comments and viewing your photos. You have a nice figure, and many of your photos, that I've seen, illustrate this beautifully.

I think it is great to experiment with one's style. I want to do more experimenting, even if it is initially in subtle ways.

Since my budget has become tight, I am going to focus on my grooming, i.e., my makeup and giving myself a manicure...instead of doing something else with my time before I head out to do errands.

I hope Sylvia will write an article about confidence, since she said, " I think it's one of the most crucial elements of great style!"

It is. But also the most difficult thing to acquire if you don't posses it. Grooming yourself is a very good start. If you look nice, you will feel nice. And when you get a compliment you will get a boost for your confidence. Spiralling upwards.

Actually stevenclowd1, I have gained more confidence from blogging and from improving my posture. How about that? I was quite surprised.

I also think women can be their own worst enemy with the least nicest thing to say about other women...I think this is true across many situations not only fashion. I think it's a very sad indictment on our gender when we should be building one another up in in this still very much a man's world.
