Post Orange problems and colour blocking

On Sylvias item on "how to use orange", I saw a purple dress with an orange scarf and thought : äha, I have a purple dress and I like orange: colour blocking! Problem is... wearing the dress with a green necklace gives me the OK to wear green shoes with it. But... if I wear an orange scarf, with the purple dress I need to buy purple shoes. Anybody with an idea to avoid that? Would black shoes do? Or is that horrible?
Furthermore I have a great orange jacket which I wear with brown trousers and knee high brown boots. It makes me look manly. Not nice. Any idea how to improve that?
And just for fun I throw in a photo of me in a large orange cardigan. Quite like this outfit. No questions about that one.

How about nude or tan shoes, if you have a pair of shoes in that colour? It's more neutral than black so it won't compete with the purple and orange. Regarding the jacket I think maybe there's something about the fit that makes you feel a tad manly. Perhaps you could try to wear it open, paired with dark blue jeans and a beautiful scarf to make the overall impression more feminine? I think maybe the jacket is a little bit too long and that the hip pockets are sligthly too big. It is a jacket with a quite masculine feel to it, so I think the fit has to be more feminine to balance that. But I agree that it's a great jacket and the colour is lovely!

I agree with Nanne that brown or tan shoes could be good. Or use another color. It's fun to have 3 colours, just as long as they all have similar tone. Just use the colour swatches on my how to wear orange page to get ideas on which colours go together.

As for the orange jacket, I actually really like that look and don't feel it makes you look manly. It has an A line shape so it gives you a waist. You could accentuate that more by adding a belt, but I already like it as it is as well.

Thank you both very much for your advice. I don't have nude winter shoes, only open toes ones for summer. I do have nude boots though (and purple ones) but I think I dislike that bit of skin between the hem of the dress and the boots. Brown shoes are a good ide. And as far as the third colour is concerned, that is something I would never have come up with. I cannot master colour blocking, so I'll have another look at the colour swatches. Perhaps my red shoes would do the trick (going wild here).
As for the orange jacket, I will try it with jeans and high heels, although I get a bit tired of wearing high heels all the time. They look great on me, but my body and feet are protesting.
As for a scarf...hmmm don't know... I'll try but am afraid it might be too much.

Just found the following solutions: the orange jacket appeared to have a belt in the same material. I always knotted it at the back to create an idea of a waist. But now, with my new found waist, I wear the belt to the font which makes the jacket more shapely. I also wear an off white shirt underneath it instead of a brown one. Lifts it better although not eveybody will agree I suppose.
I tried the jacket with an, admittedly printed, scarf and that was too much. But that scarf (orange, pink, brown) is wunderful on the purple dress (and with brown shoes).
Third thing you inspired me with (to?) is: purple dress, purple boots, orange scarf and colour blocking tights! That way the bit of skin between boots and hem is gone. Now I have to figure out what colour tights to chose. Up to the colour swatches page.

Shoes..... I will publish my article on that tomorrow. Be sure to join the discussion there! Good luck experimenting. It's fun! Just mix and match things from your closets. Take pictures and see if you like it...
