Rachel Comey fall 2012 collection highlights

Although shops are starting to fill up with the trends for Spring / Summer 2012, currently the shows for the Fall / Winter 2012 collections are in full swing in New York. It’s great fun to see the new creations of all the hottest designers in the world and over the coming weeks, I will write ocasional posts on the best dresses and garments for women over 40 from the collections.  In this episode I will feature Rachel Comey, Costello Tagliapietra, Cynthia Rowley, St. John and Peter Som.

The graphical trend continues at Rachel Comey with strong color and great prints. Even orange is still present!

Costello Tagliapietra fall 2012 collection highlights

My reader Suzanne had already pointed out in a comment that I might like this collection. She is starting to know me :) Indeed this collection was full of little treasures. Beautiful dresses in fabulous colors were draped beautifully at the front. Many featured asymmetrical features which I love so much as well. The colors were bright, with orange again featuring prominently.

Cynthia Rowley

Cynthia Rowley fall 2012 collection

Cynthia Rowley featured some very comfortable and chic dresses, which go all the way to the knee, my preferred length at the moment. I like the idea of the grey dress below, which is worn over a printed shirt. A very comfortable, yet trendy look for autumn and winter,

St. John

I loved the effortless elegance shown at the St. John collection. That dress is just so elegant and chic, yet trendy, while those beautiful wide pants in my favorite old pink remind me of the wonderful style of Catherine Hepburn.

Peter Som

Peter Som also showed a continuation of the wide oversized shoulders and the peplum trend that we have seen for Spring 2012 as well. These 2 trends featured in quite a number of the collections shown at New York Fashion week.

Which collection is your favorite sofar?

I knew you would like those dresses at Costello Tagliapietra! The way they drape and are gathered made me think of you right away. :) I do not have a favorite collection yet. I have not had time to look at Sunday’s or Monday’s runways and Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren have not had their shows. I did like the 20′s colorblocked looks at BCBG and Lacoste’s “ski” outfits – especially the two toned leggings. I loved the evening gowns at Zac Posen – a “wow” moment. I’ll keep you posted.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and all of your awesome readers! <3

Love the second two dresses! I haven’t been keeping up with what’s goin on in new York but I’m sure over the next few weeks I’ll get some idea of what went on.

That red dress looks a bit like my pink Calvin Klein Dress and I love this one too. Would have liked it a bit longer as a dress, but at this length it would be great to wear over pants as well! So many shows, it’s indeed hard to keep up with!

And I haven’t even planned my summer wardrobe yet:) I really like several of these looks, and when it comes to long-time wardrobe planning maybe it’s a good thing to start looking for inspiration now.

Yes I read that the fashion industry is struggling with this this issue a bit right now. Collections become instantly available for viewing to consumers… My suggestion is just to take note of the trends that are still continuing. In that case, when you buy something for Spring, you will know that the garment is not out of date for Fall and Winter.

I want the second orange/red Costello Tagliapietro dress with the long sleeves: would suit me perfectly. Never heard of the brand. But if it is catwalk material, it will stay a dream anyway.

I really like all the dresses, they celebrate the female forms. I can only dream about them, but thank you for showing them to me.

They are all gorgeous. You can actually already see other interpretations (much cheaper) in the shops. Will hunt for them in upcoming articles when most of the Fall fashion hits the stores….
