Wearing the trends: black and blue

black and blue wardrobe capsule

If you are like me you like to incorporate some of the new trends into your wardrobe each season. It does not have to be much. Just 1 or 2 pieces can make all the difference and make your wardrobe current again.

So here is an example of a wardrobe capsule you could create from 1, 2 or even 3 trends from the current fall 2012 trends. A big trend is the combination of black and blue, as well as leather and tone on tone suits. So here is how you could wear all 3 trends with the addition of a few items.

The black suit is an ideal item to have. You can wear it together, or combine with a blue jacket or white button down shirt. You may already own this.

A great item to buy would be either a cobalt top or cobalt and black colourblock top. Great to combine with either a cobalt or black skirt and your black blazer. (I’ve got mine already).

Or opt for a cobalt skirt. I absolutely love this skirt from Karen Millen.

If you like to incorporate the leather trend as well for a more edgy style, then the cobalt Iro Moto leather jacket would be very hip.

So have a look what is already in your closet and what you will need to incorporate the black and blue or leather trend in your wardrobe. Of course you can opt for another trend as well, instead of this one.

I made a selection of more fabulous black and cobalt items in various price categories, which you can find below.

I love anything blue! And I think cobalt with black is fabulous. :) You have given me so many ideas about how to wear this combination of colors – which to me never goes out of style.
I ordered a black leather peplum top in July and am still waiting to receive it. I want to try it with my cobalt cropped jeans. I also have a black leather pencil skirt and I should get a cobalt blouse to wear with that – something silky so the look is feminine and not “biker chick” – LOL!
Guess what? Pantone has announced THE color for Spring 2013 and it is: “Monaco Blue” – a cross between navy and cobalt. I think it is gorgeous. I adore color.

Always Love a bright blue against black…paired my YSL tribtoo in cobalt suede with my dress and absolutely spiced up a LBD!!
Just purchased a Hudson Nebula Nico jeans and so dramatic!! It is cosmic blue and black combo.
Got also a suede navy Opening Ceremony Coachella 1 booties to wear against black
for FW. Can’t wait!!!

Sylvia

Wow petite, that sound nice. Perhaps you should consider uploading some photos in our style forum. I would love to see it!

Petite

How do I upload them? I don’t take modshots in my outfits, but I can post pics of my items.

Sylvia

You can just create a new topic in the forum and then attach a picture. If you like to help me keep image sizes small or if you like to create a collage from your images, you can use http://www.imageoptimizer.net/Pages/Home.aspx or http://www.picmonkey.com/ for that. Just make the picture or collage 500 (pixels) wide.

I love the Hudson Nebulas! Don’t they have a touch of pink too? You could do a lot with them. Try adding some bright yellow. :)

Your clothes sound wonderful Suzanne. Just had a look at the spring 2013 colour. Nice, but I prefer the current royal blue. Still, I have several items in that colour, so better hold on to them (I’m doing major wardrobe editing).

Love this- Pam was also inspired by this trend and I think you two maybe jointly inspiring me!

Sylvia

I know, just read the article this morning! I’m sure we are going to see your version pretty soon. I still have to post my new royal top as well!

Sylvia, thanks for the great ideas. Finally, I already own trendy stuff. Blues and blacks are my faves :)

Sylvia

Great! Lots of choice for you then this season!

Suzanne

Had to come back to say – Oh. My. Gosh. – every S/S13 runway has black and white outfits – even Marc Jacobs!!! I don’t think I have ever seen him do such simple clothes. It is a great Fall and it is going to be a great Spring! Makes me wonder what the Paris runways will look like?!

Sylvia

Yes looking forward to that as well. Black and white will never go out of style. Still one of my favorites, especially when combined with a pop of colour.

Very nice post Sylvia. The blue with black is not my cup of tea, but it is nice to look at all the examples. Especially Theory is a brand I like very much.
After my recent experience with the Coach bag I don’t know whether I will be ordering very much online and having it shipped to The Netherlands from the USA…… It is rather costly.
It was good to see that you showed various price ranges. I quite liked the Dorothy Perkins dress and could not believe it was only $ 17,-. I fear for the quality, but it is dead cheap.
I hope you will do these kind of posts on other trends as well.

Sylvia

At least you got yourself a nice bag! Still surprised that you could not get it in Holland. There are several coach shops here. (you may enjoy shopping in Singapore!). I think they put the logo on the bag, because Asia is a big market for them and here it IS important. That is partly why they buy the bag. Don’t worry I will continue to do these wearing the trends articles for other trends as well!

Suzanne

Greetje – I am glad that you finally picked your Coach purse up and that you are so happy with it. I knew you would be. I understand why you do not want to import too many items though. For what you pay for postage and duty you could buy another piece for your wardrobe. But a few things are worth it – like your yellow bag. :)
Yellow goes nicely with cobalt blues! I am seeing a lot of that combination on NYFW attendees. And YSL did an eyeshadow duo in those two shades this Summer that is amazing.

I’m so excited about the cobalt blue trend, mostly because I have a blue jacket that’s fab but I rarely wear. I think it’s going to be one of my favorite pieces this winter! I might have to get a matching purse too…

Sylvia

I look forward to seeing it!
