We’re starting a new spring inspired series, where each article will focus on a capsule wardrobe for each of the body types. In this article, we cover the perfect spring capsule that best flatters the hourglass shape.

Before hopping into the excitement of creating a capsule wardrobe for Spring, let’s remember a few things. Simply stated, a capsule wardrobe is a minimalist wardrobe that consists of pieces that all coordinate with one another.  There is also an additional benefit that they coordinate well with clothes you already have in your closet (such as neutral blazers, black pants, etc.).

The goal is not to just buy season appropriate clothing that will leave you staring at your closet for too long (we’ve all been there). Instead, the goal is to take a minimalist approach to having a well tailored closet capable of producing one chic ensemble after another.

It’s a worthwhile challenge with an incredible payoff in the end–a closet with clothes you will actually wear and seemingly endless style options. Another plus, it gives you the opportunity to get creative with your styling.

Here are our picks with some tips along the way to help all you beautiful hourglass shapes pull together the perfect Spring capsule wardrobe.

Tops

You will want to wear mostly v-shaped tops or tops with a deep neckline. T-shirts look nicest when they fit your waist, have a V-neck and have some accents on the shoulders.

Pants

Opt for flat front boot cut trousers, preferably with stretch for a snug fit. If you’re shopping for cropped pants, select a straight leg cut as this is most flattering to the hourglass shape.

Skirts

Pencil skirts that fit well are ideal for the hourglass as they accentuate your wonderful curves. Other skirts can work too but will usually look better when they end around the knee.

Dresses

Look for dresses that fit your bust  and elongate your waist. They should fit very snugly around that area. If you have some weight around the abdomen then make sure your buy your dress in supportive fabric.

Outerwear

Get a jacket that highlights your waist and featuress a V-neck. Wear single-breasted jackets that are tailored. They will often look best when left open to create a nice vertical line, which elongates

Shoes

Choose shoes that accentuate your curves, like shoes with rounded toes, peep toes or bows.

When selecting accessories, you want to go with pieces that can bring attention to areas you want to highlight (such as your shoulders, waist, or face) or select select pieces that do not draw attention (such as simple necklaces).

Are you clicking using a computer. I just clicked the links to the bag and they both work http://rstyle.me/n/bjkxaibpr77

Sorry, the link does work but I can not get it to accept an order, it keeps telling me to click on the size. This is possibly the DKNY site’s fault? I’d really love this handbag, especially for that price–on sale $149!

Thanks for showing these great choices. My only question is about the shoes with an ankle strap, I thought they would make me look stubby.

It all just depends on what you wear with it and how you proportion the rest of your outfit. Lots more info on that in my accessories course 🙂

Oh no no to round toe flats anyway. They look too little girlish to me. Almost all my flats are pointy toes. I always wear v neck or scoop neck tops. I also like boat neck. My mother swore they work for broad shoulders, which I have.

It would be great if your links worked!

The links worked at the time they were published. Since this is fashion though, items sell out quickly. I invite you to subscribe to our newsletter so you get all the latest articles which will all have current links.

Love the inspiration from all the articles I read on this site. Thanks to all. It’s giving me hope to get back to my old self after 2 yrs struggling with a life long illness and gaining weight. I’m finding that all shapes can look amazing.
