It’s fun to be a tourist in your own country so on this beautiful sunny day, my family decided to go and discover Volendam.

Volendam is a local tourist attraction and known for its cute old harbour and picturesque settings. Unfortunately, it has become a bit too touristy for our liking so we really had to go off the beaten track to find some of its old charm.

Like these pretty small canals.

And the cute little houses.

The pull-up bridges that still look cute but are no longer in use.

A great back drop for my outfit naturally!

The outfit itself is pretty basic and not totally as planned. I had actually wanted to wear it with my gray moto jacket. Alas as it was hot indoors I forget to take it!

So we are left with my fabulous skirt from Porto and my super basic (but oh so versatile) blouse from H&M. The accessories finish the look and add more texture and color.

A little bit disappointed with Volendam, we decided to go to nearby Edam as well, which is world famous for its cheese.

Edam is smaller and not nearly as touristy as Volendam even though in many ways it’s prettier.

It has beautiful canals and bridges….

Edam is tiny but I prefer it to Volendam and is a great afternoon trip if you are visiting the Netherlands as it’s not so far from Amsterdam.
