Oftentimes, the best way to get creative and stylish with your closet is to limit yourself to a few pieces that you can mix and match for the week. In today’s post, I show you how to style 7 days worth of looks out of 3 bottoms and 3 tops.
Let’s begin by selecting 6 items of clothing we can mix and match. As it is summer and the weather is warm, I opted for pastel and neutral hues that pair together well.
6 items of clothing, 2 pairs of shoes, and 3 accessories
As you can see below, this is truly a neutral and pastel palette, with the highlight of dressy, dark rinse jeans and a floral skirt that has pastel coloring with pops of bright pink.
When it is time to begin building your 7 looks, you can already see how it sets you up for success. Everything coordinates, there are visually interesting pieces that aren’t simply plain basics, and you give yourself opportunities to contrast prints and textures.
- Raoul straight leg pants

- Helmut Lang dark rinse slim leg jeans
- Maje pastel pink blazer
- Warehouse cotton lace sleeve top

Looks #1 and #2
Looks #3 and #4
Looks #5, #6, and #7
As you can see, I played around with mixed prints and textures for your 7 looks. Because I selected neutral and pastel hues that coordinat well (as well as a dark and dressy denim), you will be able to play a stress free game of mix and match.
These looks (and ideas) can easily be converted into a week’s worth of looks using items you already have in your closet. As an example, a checked top and a white shirt can easily play well with a multitude of bottoms in your closet.
You can also think about how this could easily be adapted for Fall, Winter, and Spring looks. As an example, for Fall you could very well add a thicker wool blazer to the checked top, pair it with the dark rinse jeans, and add a nice pair of ankle boots to the look.
