As I mentioned before, I loved the Oscar de la Renta prefall 2012 collection, which was very suitable for women over 40. Here are some more great outfits and dresses from he prefall collections for 2012 of those designers that inspired me and had something to offer for women over 40.
BCBG Max Azria
Charaterized by flowy silhuettes and colors, I really like the color combinations.
Helmut Lang
Yes, I do think that a hip 40+ woman can pull of these cool assymmetric looks. Of course we would style it a bit different, but there is no reason we can cannot play with some fun shapes and forms!
Pringle of Scotland
This label is working with assymmetry as well. Loving the color combinations and graphics.
Zac Posen
Zac Posen loves to define the waist and create an ultra hourglass shape. Now for everyone I guess, but if you have the right shape or are willing to wear some high duty shape wear then you will look look ultra elegant in these dresses!
What are you looking forward to wearing next year?

BCBG PF12 is bohemian and folkloric – my favorite look from the entire collection is the first one you posted – that navy and white dress with the touch of yellow and the cool belt.
I like everything Calvin Klein showed – the hourglass silhouettes with the cinched waists.
I adore Chanel’s Indian influence – I can see myself in the silk tunics over leggings.
No one does gowns like Oscar de la Renta. There is a pink one with a pleated skirt that is perfection.
Zac Posen’s entire line is over the top glamour.
I can not wait to see Karl Lagerfeld’s collection for Net-a-Porter. That man is a genius.
I am crazy for the print dresses by Mary Katrantzou. They are so distinctive.
The one collection I was disappointed in is Michael Kors. Too western with the large cowboy hats and cowhide. Not for me.
I love that navy dress as well, even though it is not typically my style. I agree about Michael Kors being disappointing, as were quite a few others. Will need to check out those print dresses you mention!
I had heard that a tangerine-y orange was an “it” color for spring, and here it is several times over in your post. My taste prefers it with the gray in BCBG Max Izria over the rust combo in Pringle.
However, the Helmut Lang shapes are my favorites! So sharp and modern. Sigh.
Grey and orange / tangarine is always a good combi, But I can see it with purple or browns too or ecru. Yes, the asymmetrical shapes of Hlemut Lang are great. All these will give other designers great inspiration so I’m sure we will see some of these looks as affordable options next year!
